Editors' Review

Comodo Firewall 7.0 takes over the tasks of the default Windows utility. It has a very modern interface and offers enhanced protection via an up-to-date cloud database, and also includes application whitelisting, a safe Web browser, and an interactive situation update system.

Effective protection: For a free program, Comodo Firewall has some pretty powerful features that really keep you safe from intrusions. It even includes a GeekBuddy subscription, a threat scanner function, and Comodo Dragon, its own safe browser. The best part is the cloud database that informs you about types of threats and guides your decisions based on well laid out options.

Application sandbox: This great feature allows you to run suspect applications in a safe context without risking infecting your computer. Activation of the automatic sandbox feature also reduces the amount of required user input.

Requires too many decisions: For an application that's supposed to run in the background, it requires more than average user input. Pop-up messages are generally informative with clear options, but you may be occasionally prompted about a DLL file that you have never heard of before.

Intervenes with core computer work: Even though we undertook testing on a 15" laptop, we still found pop-up messages to be far too large, obstructing our core tasks. It would be preferable to have smaller message windows that can be expanded to their full informative version with a single click.

Bottom Line

Comodo Firewall efficiently protects your computer from all kinds of external threats. It successfully mobilizes the latest features and cloud technology, offering a good user experience overall. Although it might be slightly complicated for novice users, it is certainly a meaningful upgrade from the default Windows firewall.

"Comodos workers behind the scene stealing files"

January 16, 2016  |  By Watchdognet

2016-01-16 20:19:46  |  By Watchdognet

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall

The Worst experience ever! I paid 69.00 for a geek buddy at Comodo to clean my registry, what should have taken 1/2 hours turned out to be 2 1/2 hours. They did not fix the problem, it jammed my Explorer browser and I woke up at 1am to see my computer opening images from my personal files and photos files. I clicked on my mouse and who ever was on my computer closed the files they were viewing. Hackers workers having remote access to my computer pretending to fix your registry but transfering all my files unto their USB BEWARE STAY AWAY FROM REMOTE WORKERS. I called to complained and They are still doing an investigation on this.

Bad news. stay away.

"Too invasive to be as unintelligent as it is"

December 17, 2015  |  By dmac89511

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall

Comodo is a firewall/security software suite that can protect your computer if you refuse to do anything more than check email and browse websites familiar to the most whitelist databases. If you have unique programs installed, attempt to use your own VPN or upload items to your own website, ditch this program immediately.

Even though Comodo is designed to comprehensively monitor all system processes, it isn't intelligent enough to manage the process effectively. It blocked programs I wanted to use even after labeling programs as trusted. This made the program unusable for me.

I absolutely hated this program so I attempted to uninstall it. It took 3 efforts to uninstall this program completely as it installs pieces of itself in the unwanted associated programs (Chromodo & Geek Buddy) it forces onto your system at the time of install. These programs act as trojans for Comodo keeping the firewall software installed even if you seem to complete uninstall procedures. The trick to getting the program removed is to uninstall Chromodo and Geek Buddy first, then Comodo will finally be removed from your system. The hassle associated with riding myself of this program has made me hate the software. I will never let such an intrusive program onto my system again. Comodo is a program from which one should steer far away.

"very nice, when it works, but avoid b/c nightmare bugs"

when it works, it is great. very easy, functional, and powerful.

they do updates which introduce nightmare bugs that cut you off the Internet and waste hours only to find out it was an update they did causing very bizarre behavior. happened on 3 systems, each of XP, Win 7, and Win 8. Avoid!

"Probably the best free firewall + HIPS scanning"

Very good protection against malware (probably the best).

It comes with bundled software and there are lots of popups. This can be sorted out though, by changing some settings and by doing a custom install/ deleting the programs you don't want/ changing which components are installed.

Good but requires settings to be changed so it has better protection ad is less intrusive. If you want just a firewall and no HIPS scanning use either the windows firewall or Zone Alarm Free.
