Comodo Firewall 7.0 takes over the tasks of the default Windows utility. It has a very modern interface and offers enhanced protection via an up-to-date cloud database, and also includes application whitelisting, a safe Web browser, and an interactive situation update system.

Pros

Effective protection: For a free program, Comodo Firewall has some pretty powerful features that really keep you safe from intrusions. It even includes a GeekBuddy subscription, a threat scanner function, and Comodo Dragon, its own safe browser. The best part is the cloud database that informs you about types of threats and guides your decisions based on well laid out options.

Application sandbox: This great feature allows you to run suspect applications in a safe context without risking infecting your computer. Activation of the automatic sandbox feature also reduces the amount of required user input.

Cons

Requires too many decisions: For an application that's supposed to run in the background, it requires more than average user input. Pop-up messages are generally informative with clear options, but you may be occasionally prompted about a DLL file that you have never heard of before.

Intervenes with core computer work: Even though we undertook testing on a 15" laptop, we still found pop-up messages to be far too large, obstructing our core tasks. It would be preferable to have smaller message windows that can be expanded to their full informative version with a single click.

Bottom Line

Comodo Firewall efficiently protects your computer from all kinds of external threats. It successfully mobilizes the latest features and cloud technology, offering a good user experience overall. Although it might be slightly complicated for novice users, it is certainly a meaningful upgrade from the default Windows firewall.

"The best Firewall converted in a dreadful experience."

August 02, 2015  |  By lachinelli

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall 8.2

Pros

Nothing since it freezes my system.

Cons

Hidden software, like Geek-something and a Comodo web browser (Who wants that??). You opt out the things I mentioned before, but you can't opt out their antivirus, which, against all you'd believe, it comes with the "firewall only" instalation file.

Summary

I've always used and regarded Comodo Firewall as the best of all, and free which made it even better. Whenever I installed an OS, Comodo made it safer. But not this time...After I installed Comodo Firewall, a fresh install of Windows 7 froze. Restarting did nothing, until I decided to uninstall Comodo and the computer worked fine again. I managed to find out that this software comes with an antivirus installed, but of course, they tell you nothing, don't let you opt out from it neither. I had AVG installed in my computer, so that's why it froze when Comodo Firewall + their hidden antivirus tried to work together. I contacted Comodo through their forums, they admitted an Antivirus comes even if you want just the firewall, and gave me some sort of solution so I can uninstall it. But they don't understand I can't even do that if my system freezes. I just told them I quit and I'd rather change to another firewall.

It's sad to see how a good firewall became an internet ***** by adding bloatware (geekthing and browser) and worst of all, forcing you to use their antivirus (Which is crap for all I know) without your conscent, hiding their software like if we were kids.

As other users have mentioned, they've just lost another follower. Avoid this software if you don't want problems in your computer.

"Be careful ! Image backup before you begin."

June 10, 2015  |  By DennisTheCnet

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall 8.2

Pros

It appears to have good features.

Cons

However, I accidently moved a .psd file into the sandbox. XP sp2 crashed immediately and I can no longer boot my system, except in Safe Mode.

Summary

I've been a programmer for a long time. In my opinion, it might have been very easy to test and be sure the correct file type (.exe) was placed in the sandbox before proceeding.

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall 8.1

Pros

PRETTY GOOD ...

Cons

1. All the pop-up from the geek buddy EVEN AFTER uninstalling I still got many pop-ups.
2. Although advertised as firewall, they cram in a bunch of other programs...LIKE the BROWSER as Falsely advertized as FREE, when it includes the Geekbuddy, a paid service.

Summary

OK to download ... but make sure to uninstall all the extra garbage GeekBuddy AND browser.

"Firewall seems to works, but..."

February 20, 2015  |  By yankee07mvp

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall 8.0

Pros

The actual firewall protection that this "free" firewall program provides seems to work OK - I can't complain about that. How effectively it works remains to be seen thou because I won't be using it very much longer.

Cons

I'll be uninstalling this "free" firewall program it a little more than a week after I had it installed it and had it setup. After running setup, you are required to contact/connect with them by phone or by 'chatting' with them on the Internet, (to simply install/setup/configure their firewall). Then you must give them access to your computer via a VPN so that they can "examine it" your computer, after which they try to sell you on up-grading to their paid products, (even if you explain to them that you are only evaluating their "free" product before deciding which firewall is the one for you).

Summary

In normally using your computer, you are beset with numerous pop-up windows - actually 3" x 5" in size - in the lower right corner of one's Windows display. These occur much too often and are all about contacting their "Live Expert Help Now" to correct "Performance Issues" and "Junk Files" issues, etc., etc. This to be done by their "GeekBuddy" program, (which gets installed along with their "free" firewall), which of course, I'm sure, is going to cost plenty of money if one does contact them about these messages. Just think of it this way...what would it be like if you were taking a "free" test drive of a new car and you got pop-up messages displayed in it's window - both continually AND often in your line-of-sight/vision..!!! Just how annoying would that be..?!? (Exactly). Enough said about this "free" software...I'm uninstalling it and will try other "free" firewalls.

"Sometimes too effective."

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall 7.0

Pros

It does block intrusions. For a free program it does its job. I have had minimal spyware and no active viruses.

Cons

Its biggest drawback is that like other firewall it asks if a process that is making a change to your computer is trusted or not. Sadly when it does this it fails to associate it will all the processes. If you are installing a program that you trust entirely you have to repeatedly tell it to trust the install. You can change it from normal to game mode but this really just tells it to ignore everything. It becomes so convenient that you forget about it. This even happens when you update or upgrade the stupid firewall. I had to repeatedly tell it its own upgrade was trusted. In the past it has also been a pain in the a$$ to remove. Thank god for revo!

Summary

If you are willing to take more time when installing something or changing a registry entry it'll work for you. If you don't want to click 30-40 times per entry then its not gonna work.

"Effective, but flawed"

October 13, 2014  |  By dedgren

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall 7.0

Pros

Could be very good a identifying problems usually.

Cons

Annoying, frequent pop-ups. The final straw was when it would not let me access the Dell website. Even after I deleted all of the components I could find and restarted my computer it continues to block the Dell website.

Summary

Comodo has become a worm.

"Horrific company"

July 30, 2014  |  By wolfheartmoon

 |  Version: Comodo Firewall 7.0

Pros

Hey, now I can give my local computer repair guy money.

Cons

Installed comodo products, I have since (after finally getting past six BSOD's) uninstalled it all. And it's STICK screwed up my computer, it's also PAINFULLY obvious it's Comodo themselves giving the postive reviews, as well as downvoting ANYONE who leaves a negative review, go ahead, downvote me you immature morons.
This program has crippled my computer, I can't even get it to boot 8/10 times, and the 2 times it will, one time, it'll crash the computer, the second it'll freeze before it allows me to attempt to repair Windows. This is AFTER uninstalling Comodo, so what the hell did this stupid program do to my computer?
Absolutly horrible, will NEVER install a Comodo product again. Ever.
