• Can't live without ClipMate 7.

  Pros

  It does everything. Keeps clips so you can go back and choose one you did before. Has a "safe" box to keep clips you use often. You can append clips, edit clips, print clips, do PDF...the list goes on. I never have to use Notepad. It all goes in ClipMate. I've been using Clipmate for years. Version 7 is the best. Great support too. I only wish they had an affiliate program.

  Cons

  You have to spend some time learning everything it does. Just learn the activities you do most.

  Pros

  Directional paste, save unlimited clips in distinct folders, convert PDF to RTF format, quick joining of multiple clips, stays on top, batch text clean up, extremely stable, exceptional, patient and personal support by developer.

  Cons

  There are so many features, that a slight learning curve is required.

  Summary

  As a recruiter I enter an enormous amount of data into a database for selection purposes. I stumbled onto Clipmate early on and have used it for years. The initial versions had a few bugs (memory intensive, hang, etc) but they have been ironed out.Program allows me to select the data I need from any document using keyboard strokes and insert it into a data storage in series without moving the mouse, using standard keyboard cut and paste strokes. Text can be cleaned up, characters, leading spaces removed, capitalization changed for individual clips, entire documents or a selection of clips. PDF, which my preferred database will not store, can be changed to RTF (Windows Key +W) with a key stroke. A group of clips can be 'glued' together and pasted as one text. I have specific documents and information stored (such as contact information for form entry) in clip files. I also have documents which I need to send often in a separate file, so I can just insert them (logo, terms, etc) The developer still answers questions personally and is patient with problems. I have recommended the program to others I cooperate with, and they are all very grateful. If I could find something better, I would use it, but so far nothing beats the price for the functionality.

  Pros

  The feature I like the most is its ability to clean up email forwards. You know, all those ">>>>>>>>>" and partial lines that make them very difficult to read? With ClipMate it's a breeze to turn it back into the original (pre-forwarded) version.

  Cons

  If there's anything I "don't like", it's the learning curve. This program is so powerful and has so many features that just exploring what they are is going to take time. <p> <p>But this is not to suggest that the program is hard to use. Quite the contrary, it's VERY easy to use. The hard part is discovering all the useful things you can easily do. :)

  Pros

  Clipmate essentially replaces the Windows clipboard so that, if you have Clipmate running, anything you copy gets stored in a "collection" (the default collection is called "inbox"). It's great for doing things which involve repeated copy and past functions of a set of elements in a "database" (e.g. from a Word document to Excel, from a set of bills into Quicken, etc.). Also, you can grab images or screenshots so it will likely replace any other utility you have for those purposes. I have a collection called "genealogy" which holds all of the family tree stuff I grab from the web (when you save this type of data with Clipmate, it stores the URL for you).

  Cons

  I'm not sure if the interface could be restructured to make this any easier, but I have been unable to do more than just scratch the surface of what this program can do. As with most multi-function programs, you really need to work with it a lot to utilize its full potential.

  Pros

  Nice idea to be able to create a database of clipboard entries and edits thereof.

  Cons

  The database becomes unstable when it reaches aprox. 188 mb, or the number of clips/collections I have accumulated. At this point, the database folder heirarchy starts coming undone - folders start moving around and are unable to be found. If you have used the program as long as I have (10 years) you may have developed valuable collections of information in subject specific folders. The folders also move when the program is shut down and restarted. Avoid this program for serious professional uses.

  The problem is, it just hasn't kept up with things. It still takes far to long to find what I'm looking for. I just changed to a more modern product that is much simpler to use.

  Pros

  The most obvious use is to copy and paste text, but I use it at least as often for screen captures with direct pasting into Photoshop via File > New > Paste. I could not function with my computers without this product, and I have rarely if ever needed most of the search, editing and other sophisticated functions.

  Because of its advanced feature set, ClipMate consumes more memory running than other applications in its category. <p> <p>ClipMate isn't as keyboard-usage friendly as I'd like--most of the advanced features have to be accessed using your mouse. <p> <p>If you're looking for a basic clipboard extender just to cache a few clips, keep looking--ClipMate has long since passed the "basic clipboard extender" category.

  Pros

  It puzzles me how people put this program down in the CNET reviews, for it is one of the most lauded and feature rich pieces of software in its genre. Perhaps it is just mindless dullards who need a very "simple" clipboard program writing these reviews? I have used Clipmate for several years now and find it to be one of the most used and useful programs on my computer. It is not only chalked full of usefull features but can hold a staggeringly massive amout of material in its storage folders and can be configured all sorts of ways. While the progam has been around for many years, its makers, Thornsoft, continually update the product. Clipmate is a many time award winner of some of the software industry's highest honors. When I read these negative comments about Clipmate it makes me think the reviewers barely gave the program a cursory look, let alone put the software through its paces. There are quite a few clipboard programs that offer little more then what comes in the operating system but NONE with the awesome power of Clipmate. This is serious software for those doing serious work.

  Cons

  Some may say that Clipmate is not that intuitive. To some extent this may be true, but I believe that is largely due to the fact that the software is so feature rich, and that it takes some effort to "learn" the program. The return on any time spent aquainting oneself with this bad boy is substantial.

  Works fo all kinds of clips bug free.

  Cons

  Once you have many clips, it becomes very difficult to find the one you want. They are arranged somewhat the same as your files in My Computer and quite often I find myself re-typing something I know is in ClipMate just because its too much hassle to look for it
