While not the easiest on the eyes, this privacy program quickly and successfully rid our computer of unwanted files and wasted disk space.

To access Clean Disk Security, you will have to run it as an administrator. The interface's white on black color-scheme isn't the easiest on the eyes, but the overall layout is easy to navigate. Simply select the drive you wish to clean, and check off the areas you want to include during the cleaning process. The program includes options to clean recent files, clean browser cookies, and empty the Recycle Bin. As far as cleaning methods, you can manually enter the number of passes, or choose the NIS, Gutmann, or Test mode methods. We liked the status bar at the bottom of the window that let us know the program's progress. We also liked that the program displayed detailed lists of any found cookies and plug-ins so that you can directly manage them.

An extensive help menu is included, but even novices will appreciate the program's ease of use. A link is provided to purchase the full version, but we found no limitations with the trial. Users of all skill levels will find this a reliable tool for permanently removing files and browsing traces.

This program gives you secure file deletion, making sure that deleted files cannot be undeleted again. Deleting a file normally just removes the file's directory entry, but the data itself remains on the disk. This program completely eliminates the contents of deleted files. The highly acclaimed Gutmann disk cleaning method is now available as an option. This program can also clean the Window's swap file, and can optionally clean unneeded temporary files from your hard disk, such as your Internet browser cache, files in your system's Recycle Bin, and can clear the "recent files" list. Comes with a direct disk viewer for discovering exactly what is on your hard disk.
