Your Mac can mount another Mac. That's not a problem, but you only have the same access as the user you are logged in as. There is no way to mount another Mac and gain full access to the destination drive. Until now.
ChronoAgent is a utility that runs on the destination Mac and communicates directly with ChronoSync, giving you full root access to a destination Mac. Now you gain full access to both Macs and can copy anything. No restrictions. Apple doesn't even offer that. Besides full access to your destination Mac you get a direct connection. Since ChronoAgent connects directly with your Mac, you no longer depend on mounting via AFP or SMB. This connection is not only direct it is much faster.
ChronoAgent runs in the background as an invisible application and is controlled in the System Preferences of your Mac. "Makes backing up laptops on a network easy"
Version: ChronoAgent 1.2
Pros
Set ChronoAgent up on you network backup Mac, and every time a laptop is connected to the network it backs up without user intervention. Great in an office. Just set ChronoSync on the laptops to "backup when an agent becomes available".
Cons
Manual and possible variations intimidating at first, but after experimenting for a an hour or so with ChromoAgent and ChronoSync, you realise that it is a really powerful combination which makes reliable backups easy.
Summary
Set up email reporting and details of any missed syncs, errors or rollback are emailed to you.
I use ChronoSync to mirror the Desktop Macs HDDS every 15-30 minutes whilst keeping the last 10 copies of documents in an archive. Accidentally delete something in a document - no problem. HDD failure - loose a maximum of 15-30 minutes.
At the end of the working day, the backup Mac copies all the new/changed files to one of a pair of large HDDs to be taken off site overnight in rotation.
Been using ChronoAgent and ChronoSync combination system for years, and it has been a life saver on many occasions. Technical support is good too.
