"Long-time happy user, new version a big step up"
Version: Awaken 5.0.3
Pros
I've been using Awaken for years and just updated to the new 5.0x series. The new design is hot. I've always loved the fade-in, fade-out features, and it has always worked for me when I need it. I did experience a couple bugs when first using 5.01, and emailed the developer. I got emails back the same day, recommending a better setting for what I wanted, and notifying me about the new release, which fixed the other bug. You can't ask for better than that, unless you want to buy from some enormous corporation that can spend months on testing before release. (NOTE: be sure to install the helper app if you want it to wake your computer from sleep.)
Cons
I used to want the ability to launch items other than music, and now you can! So, nothing negative to report.

"Unreliable"
Version: Awaken 5.0.3
Pros
Lots of features, looks nice, easy to use
Cons
Relying on it to get woken up for something really important is like playing Russian roulette.
Summary
As another reviewer has said, Awaken has become very unreliable since the last few versions. The most essential functionality - playing an alarm at the set time - is broken. On average it seems to work 75% of the time, which is unacceptable. It fails in so many different ways (computer doesn't wake, it wakes but the app does nothing, it wakes and tries to play music but gets stuck halfway?) that I wonder how well it was tested. Stay away from this one if you're looking for an alarm that you can count on.

"An alarm app must function correctly EVERY time"
Version: Awaken 5.0
Pros
Good-looking app with easy-to-use interface.
Cons
Alarm only goes off 50% of the time.
Summary
I've been a registered user through many versions and, as far as I'm concerned, the latest 2 version have sunk an otherwise decent application.
An alarm program that only functions sometimes is an extremely HUGE problem and that is what Awaken has become.
If you're counting on it waking you up you should look for another program. -
"Sure, but why?"
Version: Awaken 5.0.1
Pros
It's a nice idea.
Cons
Oh come on now - Alarm Clock does the same thing for free.

"Awaken does not work on 10.4.12"
Version: Awaken 4.0.20
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Awaken does not work on my os 10.4.12. The application when set to alarm requests where itunes is all the time. Nothing I do changes this. So it has no working alarm function.
I have been the developers site and followed the suggestions to no avail. It does not work. Very unreliable for an alarm. -
"Best alarm clock software ever"

I've used this application for about 2 years and it still wakes me up every morning and puts me to sleep many nights. Works like a charm and nearly every feature is useful.

"Pretty, but useless - doesn't wake from sleep"
Version: Awaken 3.1.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Seems like I'm not the only one who's tried this alarm and found that it doesn't wake from sleep as claimed. Maybe it's 10.4.11 that's doing it but it seems not, from the number of posters below and on the dev's forums. Strange that users should hae such divergent experiences (in both service and performance) from a single app. Still, reliability is the key with alarms and this one gets nought on that count. One star for the eye candy and decent UI. Will look elsewhere for functionality though. -
"Asleep would be a better name."

Awaken 3.1.4b has the same problem as previous versions: my Mac does wake up from sleep and when I look at the screen in the morning Awakenâ??s there... but no music is playing nor is the alternative alarm ringing. In fact, Iâ??m still woken up by my mobile phone because I simply cannot rely on Awaken. Iâ??ve reported this issue numerous times and, judging from the forums on the developerâ??s site, Iâ??m not alone. However, nothingâ??s been done to address the problem. Itâ??s been months now since I registered and Iâ??m seriously considering going back to AlarmClockPro. Itâ??s not as nice to look at... but it works! Reliably that is. And: I donâ??t have to wait for months before getting a reply from customer support. -
"Clean design, simple and very, very reliable"

We love Awaken as it has never let us down, ever. Even if iTunes screws up and doesn't work then Awaken switches to its own built-in alarm [one of a selection] and that never fails to wake us up. We're starting to use it now as a sleep program and also a reminder program. Jerry Brace, the guy behind the code, has been very supportive when we lost our serial number after we upgraded our mac mini to a new iMac. The purchase price is small fry compared to the usefulness of the program... -

This is pretty much the best alarm clock application for OS X. I had used Aurora previously, but it has wayyy too many bugs and the developer is not helpful. This application actually works as advertised (so far as I can tell), and it's beautiful! My only suggestion is to somewhere explain what an "egg timer" is (in the application itself, not the website).
