The Avid Xpress Pro software offers professional video, audio, film, effects, and encoding tools plus custom music creation software for both Mac and PC platforms in a single box. The software supports native HDV and DVCPRO HD for acquisition, editing, and output; real-time effects and 2:3 pulldown insertion over FireWire; and Avid DNxHD encoding to create effects, transitions, and titles with uncompromised image quality. Avids unique Open Timeline enables users to mix HDV, DVCPRO HD, and Avid DNxHD formats with SD and DV media in the same timeline in real-time, eliminating the time-consuming process of incorporating media from multiple sources into a single project. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.

What's new in this version:

  • When loading a progressive master clip into an interlace project, you will be prompted to perform a transcode. If you try to perform the transcode, you will receive a message indicating the "Transcode cannot be completed because the source contains an unsupported resolution." This is as designed.     "Really not available for Macs"

    Pros

    None, I can't use it.

    Cons

    Apparently AVID woke up and made this not available for new Macs. Looks like they realized it was too good and basically absorbed this program into Media Composer 6 which is 2500 bucks!
    None of the less expensive offered by AVID/Pinnacle are compatible with Mac Systems

    Summary

    Avid doesn't seem to know whether is wants to get in the Con/Prosumer market when it comes to Mac users. I would buy this product for 300 easy if it was available as an introductory into the AVID family, but now it looks like Adobe will have to do. What a shame.

    "Asking for A Dongle"

    Pros

    It does start up.
    Added Avid codecs without thrashing my Quicktime Pro.

    Cons

    Wants A Dongle
