• Powerful yet easy to use... Awesome!

  Pros

  Easy to use, if you are already familiar with programming you will be right at home. If you are beginning you will find a lot of resources at your disposal, including a well designed help file. Very large number of commands, you can automate almost anything! (simulate keystrokes and mouse movements) Comes with a great source code editor with has numerous features (SciTE Lite)

  Cons

  None that really jump out. If you get errors make sure to read the error message displayed, it may be something simple like incorrect syntax or forgetting to include a relevant file.

  Summary

  Autoit is a great scripting language that can do almost anything and has lots of commands. Even beginners can appreciate the ease of use and sheer power of this tool. Plus you can easily create GUI based programs too! One thing I should mention is that you should get to know as much of this tool as possible. There are lots of cool things waiting if you just look for them. Like Au3Record.exe for recording macros with a click of a button (included with Autoit) and ISN AutoIt Studio (separate download) with can simplify various things like GUI creation.

  Pros

  AutoIt works to many advantages. It is lightweight, it is straight forward, and it is very easy to understand and use. It has a huge knowledge base (almost any problem, I can google for a result) and it has the functional to perform any task I need done. It is also compatible with any other scripting language. You can run AutoIt to run a batch and then return a success code and depending on that code decide what needs to happen next. Great framework scripting service.

  Cons

  I have yet to run into any problems with AutoIt except the ones where I just make a mistake. A very solid language.

  Summary

  I would recommend this scripting language to anyone. Those that have had a history of scripting, and those that are just coming into the industry. It is quick and easy to learn while also not limiting the user in any way.

• autoit website is hacked?

  Pros

  None!!!! I will not download or use autoit while their website is so shady.

  Cons

  Upwards of a dozen 3rd party sites are accessed, one of which, seek4quick.com would not let me close it's tab and kept throwing up an aggravating dialog box. Sub-pages cause my anti-virus to throw warnings.

  Pros

  - Many resources to manage any operational task (files, cds, Ole automation, etc.) - It's similar with Visual Basic. - Can be compiled. - its editor is very good.

  Cons

  - GUI is not that simple. - Depuration is not trustable.

  Summary

  AutoIt it's a great option to make a simple utility with no frills.

  -Easy to understand scripting language -Large library of built-in functions -Support for user defined function -Ability to call DLL's, extending the software's ability in many different ways

  Cons

  -User support form forbids using the software for game bots, which is censorship if you ask me. -The macro recorder utility that comes with it is buggy

  Summary

  Overall, a very good mix of easy to understand scripting language coupled with powerful functions. If you know what you're doing, you can create some powerful applications let alone simple macros.

  Easy to learn and use. An incredible support forum.

  Cons

  It's not available for the Mac. This isn't really fair, but it's the only thing I could think of.

  Summary

  AutoIt is a programming language originally designed to automate installing applications in Windows. It has become a comprehensive programming language with complete access to the OS plus the ability to manipulate open applications and background processes. Support from forum members is better than the support for any commercial product I've ever had. I've used AutoIt for over eight years and love it.

• Excellent Windows automation that created .exe files

  Pros

  Simple to use, the examples help enormously. Used it to automate the starting and stopping of my Twonky Media Server that's on a NAS drive (one click on the .exe instead of several hundred keystrokes and opening 4 apps!).

  Cons

  No macro recorder functionality (as in WinBatch).

  Summary

  Great time saving application that creates exe files that can be run on any machine even if Autoit isn't installed on the machine.

  Neat gimick at best.

  Cons

  Installs on your PC and runs in the system tray.

  Summary

  Not really sure what uses this would have for a home user, as anything that would need automating is available through other means like scheduled tasks and even vbscript.
