• Doesn't do what it says it can do

  There are no pros I can think of. :(

  Doesn't transcribe to a readable score that is the same as the audio I put in, and believe me, I tried! 'On Top of Old Smokey' came out looking (and sounding) like Charles Ives variations on a theme of Brian Ferneyhough in retrograde inversion.

  Summary

  A great idea in principle, but nowhere near delivering a readable score, or anything that resembles the music i input into it. In its current form, the software shouldn't even be freeware, and I'm sorry to say, I cannot recommend it. Indeed I have no idea how it managed to make it into the Sibelius gallery of add-ons. Surely the developers themselves must be eyes-wide-open aware they're selling a crock? Back to the drawing board with you!

  It appears to track the notes sung of from mp3 but when you listen back they're all wrong. I recorded a simple tune and made into mp3 to give it best chance to work but hardly picked any of the notes so no use at all. I wanted to buy sebalius 7 and thought the products they sell with must be good quality but they are not. Why would Avid risk their reputation like this small I perhaps missing something.

  Pros

  The software does read the audio file & transcribes it to sheet music. It's pretty easy to use. Screen is easy to understand. Good job on the UI.

  Cons

  But it transcribes the music completely wrong - 100%. As a reviewer above wrote, it's 'absolutely useless' for transcribing audio into notation. It gets it all wrong.

  Summary

  This software is a sausage grinder for music. It takes your audio file and transcribes it into something utterly different and bad. I downloaded the free trial to see if I wanted to buy it. I loaded an mp3 of mine into it. And I watched the software work. The free trial transcribed twenty-seconds of the music. Then I played back the transcription. A simple Pop song had become something out of Charles Ives or a horror movie.

  I do not have the full version of the software. I just downloaded the free trial version and it doesn't seem to work at all. I've only had the trial for a few days, so I don't have a lot of experience with it. I tried to transcribe a very basic song that had one piano, solo vocal and one cello. It only transcribed about 14 seconds of the piece. The parts weren't even close. This is a great idea for software, but it's not there yet. I would definitely recommend downloading the trial to see if you can get it to work before you spend the $250 to buy this.

  Yes it sort of recognizes notes.

  I tried it out on short sections of chamber music. It was hopeless at identifying instruments, inserting spurious piano and guitar lines. It found piano, guitar and trumpet in a string quartet excerpt. It failed completely on a five part acapella segment. Again identifying piano and guitar lines. It crashed a couple of times during my tests and at one point, refused to let me drag the divider between the score and track windows. following restart, it found different notes in the same file it had read before.

  Summary

  I can't believe that at this level of performance, it could save me any time. Even if I identify each bit of each track it doesn't seem to get the rhythm details. If you wind the sensitivity up you get many spurious notes. If you don't, it misses obvious things. It cannot identify instruments even roughly.

  I would be delighted to hear if anyone gets any sense from this programme. Sibelius themselves suggest it doesn't do what the advert claims.

  Cannot interpret durations or meter. Is unable to interpret even the simplest of single-note musical lines.

  Summary

  I'm a professional composer and performer. I first came across this product on the Sibeilus.com site and thought to myself, "16 instruments / notes playing at a time into multiple staves, with up to 4 voices per staff? -- Impossible!" Well, my expectations were far exceeded when I fed the program a very rudimentary piano sonata score in MP3 format. It wasn't even close. The opening line is triplets on quarter notes followed by solid 8ths in a 4/4 meter. What was interpreted was a mesh of tied half notes and broken 16ths / 8ths. I don't know how Neuratron convinced Sibelius to carry this product, but I can't imagine it will be on the market for long, especially with a price tag of $250. Don't waste your time. This is a nice idea, but the truth of the matter is --- there's no shortcut to transcribing scores (yet).
