CNET Editors' review
Ask.com is currently the fifth most popular search engine on the Web. It lets users search the Web for links, images, videos, driving directions, and news, along with local city listings and shopping links for products.
In a space so heavily dominated by Google, Ask.com does one thing that no other search engine does: display results from other search types on the same page. This lets you see a wide gamut of results, all at once. It also differs from other search engines in allowing users to customize and skin various elements of the engine from a large catalog, which changes the look and feel of the site entirely.
Ask.com is also the proud owner of Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com, and Reference.com, though the company has not integrated any features of those sites to the search page. With current competition from Bing, it remains to be seen how Ask.com will fare going forward. It's simple enough to use, but may not have enough incentives to keep users coming back.
Ask.com gives you the best answers online to make searching quick and easy. Search types include questions, Web, images, news, q&a, local, maps, tv listings, events, recipes, videos, shopping, and blogs. When you search Web results you will have all of the following at your fingertips: dictionary, weather, conversions, famous people, stock quotes, smart answers, binoculars, and site preview. Simply type your question in the search box, such as "what is the fastest animal?" or "where is CostCo near 40601?" and Ask.com will deliver you the best results for your search, right at the top of the page.
Image Search: Find celebrity images, pictures of your next vacation destination, or the home you plan to buy with a quick image search. Simply enter the key words and get great image results in one click. News Search: Quickly find all the breaking news - local and international - with the News Search tool. Ask.com Q&A: Find out how other users answer your questions. To find the Q&A feature select "lots of answers" on the home page and type in what's on your mind, like "change a tire" and see hundreds of similar questions already asked and answered by real people. Also look for Q&A answers on your results page whenever you run a web search of type a question.
Local is local search that integrates the best local information on the Web with a distinctive, "all-in-one" user interface. Search for businesses, events, and movies in your area--you'll get maps, directions, reviews, and the ability to buy tickets and make reservations. Looking for the fastest, most convenient way to find your favorite shows on TV? Just type in the show you like to watch and find all the show times for your area and provider. Or simply type "when is COPS on TV?" on the Ask.com homepage to find results even faster.

The product does work but not so nice as google
it over rides your normal browser apps. and is very hard to remove from your system, regardless of instructions from supplier.
ask does not let you return to your previous browser home page (after trying it)
would rather be using, ms-ie, mozilla, google anything but ask.com
