"avoid this program if possible"
Version: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2
Pros
I had no other options available via my library. I hope better programs exist.
Cons
Deletes all notes as soon as book expires..even if the book is rechecked out after the due date.
Summary
WHY bother reading a textbook with Adobe Digital for graduate school or a PHD program if notes and quotes in specific chapters cannot be saved after the book time expires??? MORE of a pain in the butt than actually having a book in front of you and taking notes with a pencil and paper. NO time is saved, especially when the book is re-checked out and the notes are still gone.
Wasted 3 hours of my time doing research only to have to start again. Thankfully it wasn't more. Be warned!!! Maybe some of the other programs have this fixed. I don't trust this program, which is sad because in the past Adobe usually has useful products. Needless to say I'm a bit frustrated. -
"Works well for library books."
Version: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2
Pros
Quick and easy to use, free, allows pdf viewing on my nook, installed without a burp on my XP box.
Cons
Cannot print from this software, panders to proprietary licensers.
Summary
I don't read on my PC, only my Nook, so I cannot vouch for or against PC viewing. The problems most others are having are because they are using offbeat software like "snow leopard" or Vista or Mac PCs. My video games won't work on a Mac, either. I recommend Windows XP or 7 if one wants to use many different applications. It's the users fault if they use Vista as everyone knows it is even worse than Windows ME. Upgrade to Win 7 or XP. The format complaints are due to the dicey ePub formatting, not this reader. Part of the problem is possibly that it's Adobe software and they are willing to sacrifice robustness to ensure it isn't prone to piracy.

"A pathetically useless piece of software"
Version: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2

don't waste your time or effort

"Pure crap!"
Version: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2
Pros
Unfortunately, I have some very good books that seem to open with only this software
Cons
Just about everything. I would rather read an e-book in an Acrobat reader than this piece $h!t. No page rotation. Hard time printing.
Summary
Not worth summarizing. Crappy product. Stay away from it if you can.
-
"Not a contender for editor's pick, that's for sure"
Version: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2
Pros
Its a basic reader and it about works.
Cons
That is all it does.
Summary
Dull. Lifeless. No features. Cannot annotate. Poor toolbar designs... Designed by people who just don't care anymore. Avoid if possible.

"Books Are Unreadable"
Version: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2
Pros
The program was able to load the book.
Cons
I can only view a half a page at a time in single page view or fuzzy pages in side-by-side view. Yes, I am on a 13-inch MacBook but there is no way I'm hauling the 21" iMac over to the comfortable chair!
Summary
This app might be ok for casually checking out a reference book but there is no way I can read a novel half page by half page. I am not very sophisticated in these things - shouldn't I be able to adjust how much I see at a time? I must be missing something. Why would anyone bother with such lame software?
I give this app one star because it did load the book - and I can't go any lower. -

"Does the basics and has an unclutterd screen."
Version: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2
Pros
Quick to install and up and working fast. Few options are good if all you want is to read.
Cons
Lacks bells and whistles

"Works Fine for Me"
Version: Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2
Pros
Opens and displays ePub files with working tags. I have had no problems with it so far.
Cons
Not an excessive amount of features. Hardly a con considering it is for reading.
Summary
Bottom-line, as a free product I couldn't ask for more from it. It displays my ebooks flawlessly and has functions you would expect from an eReader. You can easily jump from section to section or a different page, change the font size, etc. I have had no problems with the Windows version. I cannot vouch for the MAC version though.
