"Licenses CANNOT be transferred if PC is replaced/broken"

May 23, 2012  |  By rspillai3

 |  Version: Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0

Pros

Works well over the network.
Easy to use and did well when imaging different PC models (if universal deploy licenses were purchased).

Cons

License does not transfer in case of replacement.
Acronis site has more than one licensing policy and the Snap Deploy 3 policy does not state this hugely negative aspect of this software.
Paid support which has to be renewed every year.

Summary

The fact that the license cannot be transferred to a replacement PC was a very huge negative aspect of this software for us. Especially since we manage around 200 PCs in a lab environment which get replaced periodically (20-40 every year)for wear and tear. Procuring a new license at almost $25 per license (including the universal deploy) would be very expensive.

"Terrible software that errors out repeatedly"

June 24, 2010  |  By snafuprinciple

 |  Version: Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0

Pros

There is nothing I like about this software.

Cons

terrible knowledge base on the Acronis site, only pay phone support, software errors out after wiping hard drives. too many components to install to simply copy a PC image

Summary

The stand alone snap deploy software simply does not work. It caused two different machines to become unusuable since it errored out after wiping the hard drives. Set up Snap Deploy Server and License Server to try it that way with similar results. After 2 days of trying, not one image was copied to a PC. Only phone support Acronis provides you have to pay for.

"Version 2 was terrific but tech support is appalling"

September 02, 2008  |  By LemmyCaution

 |  Version: Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0

Pros

Allows imaging of networked systems.

Cons

Convoluted and poorly documented image build process.
LAME customer service. Takes 6 weeks to respond to email.
Version upgrade from 2-3 means that new systems must use v3. Older systems need to be upgraded to V3 if reimaged.

Summary

Initially, I purchased the product because to image 10 new Dell systems. The network component works okay but sometimes will not work with multiple computers. New releases from Dell are frequently not included in SnapDeploy's database so support is necessary. Despite having paid for 30 licenses and for the extended support, I only recently received a phone number to call. My last request for tech support was responded to without apology in 6 weeks. I sent several emails.
These folks are just clueless. The best support resource so far is on Wilder's security forum but, I still need help with Universal Deploy - an addin that allows one to build a basic image, then deploy it to multiple PC platforms. There is scant mention of Universal Deploy in the lengthy but convoluted 'manual' and getting a response from support is unreliable. I'm dumping this turkey despite having invested close to $2000 in Acronis software since Jan 1.

Updated on Sep 2, 2008

Regarding SnapDeploy - it allows deploying a standard image to multiple platforms - Dell, IBM, laptop, desktop etc. by including a driver package. There is no documentation for creating the driver package in the manual. There IS some poorly explained anecdotal info on Wilder's. Until now, I would say that Symantec has the worst customer service but Acronis makes Symantec look good!
