Pros

Pleasant interface: AVS Media Player is very easy on the eyes. The different buttons and options are thoughtfully placed, so the app doesn't feel too busy.

Multiple format support: The software will play an MP4, a 3GP, or an MKV without problem. In addition to the video support, a wide range of audio formats are supported as well.

Works with different home cinema setups: Whether you have a home cinema with a surround sound system or just your laptop and a headset, the app will make optimal use of the available hardware to deliver the best possible experience.

Stunted customization: You cannot install skins or themes, and the button layout on the main player window cannot be changed.

First-party ads: When no video is playing, the main window may display an ad for another program made by the same company. Additionally, every time you start the media player, a two-second splash screen appears that cannot be disabled.

No JPEG feature?

Pros
Not a bad software program for older folks like me, plain and simple to use.
Cons
Does not open JPEG files which (for me) is the most common, only opens BMP, WMF, EMF, and PNG files that I don't use.
Summary
Other than the missing JPEG feature it's a good software program.

The products are OK, and the paid bundle (yes, I've purchased a full license) looks attractive in terms of bang for the buck, HOWEVER...
Cons
Licensing policy and support are terrible!! Once installed on a computer - that's it! no way you can remove/de-activate if you need to port to a new computer. All attempts to get the support for that failed, with the feeling you're contacting a robot rather than a thinking person. Was offered a 50% discount to purchase again a license for the new computer. Wouldn't buy for a penny.STAY AWAY. This is not how software companies should do business in the 21st century.... :-(

I didn't see any at all. Saw all the stuff that I didn't want going on to my computer and got rid of most of it.
Cons
It was loading all types of stuff onto my computer. I had to add a review here. People should know about this. It changed my homepage also. I had to redo my fire fox. I had to go into my control panel to uninstall as much as I could. It is hard to uninstall. Lots of little pieces placed all over your computer. Fortunately I have most of the programs to help me get rid of most of it. I hope I got it all.

AVS (or one of the 3 or 4 programs that are attached) took over all of my web browsers and deleted the pages I had saved. Also, I had to remove a ton of malware after I removed the programs (at least I hope they are removed).
Summary
Stay away. Free is a great price, but this company can't be trusted. This isn't the first time that this has happened with a CNET recommendation.

A very large number of audio/video codecs that is for certain. QT for Windows is very limited in comparison.
Cons
It truly needs a standalone uninstaller. Even AVS Media provides extensive manual uninstalling information even if the Windows program removal is successful. In my case I, after the Add/Remove uninstall, and had to manually delete the program folder, check for hidden user folders, and clean out the registry. In my case - deleted an AVS Media folder in registry, and then a registry search revealed over 600 AVS entries to delete that were not in the two locations they specify to check.

1 - it did not play the one file I tried to play in it, which was an Mpeg 4 movie, closed it and deleted it (all my other tested media players played the same file with NO problems) 2 - AVS also downloads other software even if you opt out during install, and that software constantly nags you to use other AVS software, obviously the AVS people sre not trying to win customers over with good marketing policies

Launching AVS Media Player brings my 3.4 Ghz Dual Core to 99% usage. Memory usage slowly climbs past 1 Gb.
Summary
Very Bad product with no support. Surprising since their Video Editor runs very well on my system. I suspect it doesn't like my nvidia GPU. I've tried their support forum but they never respond.
