As nostalgic as the image of the classic green Solitaire may be, 123 Free Solitaire 2009 7.1 offers the same fun plus more games and sleeker looks.
Following the quick installation, the program will ask you to choose which Solitaire game you would like to play. The list is comprised of 12 games: Diplomat, Eighteens, Flower Garden, Free Cell, Grandfather's Clock, Klondike, Pyramid, Royal Rendezvous, Spider, Spider One Suit, Spider Two Suit, and Yukon. Clicking on each will create a preview of the respective game. This preview includes an image, number of decks, game time, difficulty level, skill level, chance of winning, and number of deals.
After you select your game, a new screen will appear. This game screen looks modern; it looks more Windows Vista style, with animated buttons, and richer color that is more attractive than its accessories tab grandfather is. This version has all of the old buttons including undo/redo, new game, and auto play. It also includes an option to change the background so you are not stuck with the bland green color. If you ever need Solitaire assistance, the help tab includes a Web site link, as well as a pop-out help menu.
123 Free Solitaire 2009 7.1 is fun if you love classic solitaire. It is a great upgrade with multiple games and a good-looking interface, perfect for avid time-passers or procrastinators alike.

Pros
The graphics are good, with nice big cards.All the games are fun to play, and I particularly enjoy playing 'Yukon'. You can turn off the option for the automatic moving of the cards if you want, which is a good idea.
Cons
In Solitaire,the option to have three cards turned instead of a single card should be included.

Free version used to work fine.

Makes fan turn on in DELL 21 inch monitor always when laying down the cards, which has never happened with any other program. I am very suspicious of this. Changed card views this time.

All I really have played is freecell so I have no idea whether the other games add value. It does a nice job of freecell. You can allow the game to automatically push cards up above the aces etc or you can turn this feature off including turning it off mid-game as you want to pull cards down from above the aces to allow you to move a card. The game does a nice job of using all the space with my large flat screen.
Cons
The biggest item I miss from the Microsoft Freecell is the ability to play the same deal of cards over and over until I beat it. Now, if I ask to play a new game, I have no way to try something new on the set of cards that just beat me.
A much smaller item is that I don't see a way to peek to see the suit of a buried ace as sometimes you need to uncover the ace of hearts more urgently than the ace of diamonds.Summary
Overall, I am pleased. My slight preferences for some added features are not strong enough to search out and buy another version of this game.
