Zillow.com is a sort of Kelley Blue Book for homes. It lets users type in an address and see specs on the home--its valuation, the date and purchase price of the last sale, and data on comparable homes. The site is ad-supported and thus free to the user.

The site offers valuations on more than 40 million of the estimated 85 million single-family homes in the United States, with some data on an additional 20 million homes. It also offers historical value changes for homes in chart form; historical value changes for homes as compared with the surrounding ZIP code, city, state or country; all comparable home sales in an area; and satellite, aerial and parcel views of homes.

Users can also create confidential personal worksheets on individual homes and use a tool that lets them refine the value of a home based on changes or additions to that home, such as a kitchen remodel. The tool calculates the remodel value for the area based on local remodel data and depreciation. And you don't need to worry about your privacy when using it since Zillow.com collects no personal information and makes a guarantee that no one will contact you as a result of using the site. It didn't show any purchases for our neighborhood, which is wrong - it had the valuation incredibly low for everything but repo'd homes in our city and was generally completely useless. It also didn't seem to realize there was a valuation difference between a 3 bedroom home (oh and it had nothing for bedrooms/rooms/sq feet) and a 3 bedroom home on 5 acres. Use anything else, it couldn't BE less accurate.
Summary
If you try to use this, you'll be robbing yourself. If your realtor uses this site to value your home, get a different realtor. The only folks you want using this are the ones who calculate your property tax -- and they know their area better than to do so.

Information is incorrect. Without details on the house, the appraisal amount is useless. Tax information was incorrect.
