For novelists who are tired of clunky word processors, yWriter offers a better way to organize big projects. It's designed around chapters and scenes, which keeps things manageable. Best of all, it's free.

  • Pros

    • Project wizard gets you started quickly. | Keeps track of word counts by scene or chapter. | Handy place to store character and location notes. | Weekly update checks are a nice touch.

  • Cons

    • The interface is painfully basic. | Feature set is good, but not exceptional. | UI could really use a modern refresh.
