• I would not use XCart if I had it to do over again.

  Pros

  It works, most of the time. Has some good features.

  Cons

  Tech support is in Russia, 9-5, M-F Russia time, which is midnight to 8 am here. If you have a problem, they will help you after midnight. I submitted a trouble ticket last night. In the middle of the night they replied with "read the directions." I have a paid tech support account. I replied with a reiteration of the problem. They replied, "Thank you for the response. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay with a reply and possible inconvenience caused. The engineer working on your request will be available on Mar 25th at 09:00 and proceed as soon as possible then. Your patience is appreciated." Today is 3/22/13. I have to wait 3 days before they will respond. I recently upgraded my stores to the latest version. I have 8,000 customers and 500 products and decided that rather than switch I would upgrade. It took 2 months, losing thousands of dollars in business and a lot of customers. My sales are down about 50% thanks to so much down time. And I still have problems.

  Summary

  I would NOT use XCart again if I had to do it over and I strongly urge anyone who is considering XCart to look elsewhere.

  Pros

  The shopping cart can be used straight out-of-the-box. If you have knowledge of coding you can customise it yourself, or do as I do, and get the experts at X-Cart to do it for you.

  Cons

  It can take you sometime to figure out how all the features work.

  Summary

  The product does everything you ever wanted. More importantly, if you want to tweek the functionality of any feature then that's very do-able to.

  Pros

  Other carts charge you monthly for the same type of shopping cart SW. Support is avaiable and they are now aggressively coming out with new versions to keep up with requirements of the industry

  Cons

  You need to have some programing skill to tweak your shopping cart.

  Summary

  Well worth the investment to start your own shopping cart

  Pros

  X-Cart has almost everything an online merchant may need. Its template system may seem complicated at 1st glance, but it is separated from the code and you can change X-Cart front-end almost any way you need. It is tested before release.

  Cons

  Their support get busy sometimes and you can wait several days for their reply, but there is several hundreds pages manual on their web-site.

  Pros

  Easy and friendly interface. Lots of extras including google checkout, google analitics, google products export. Different payment methods inc paypal and nochex. Don't need extensive HTML knowledge to set it up. Don't understand why people buy expensive applications if can you x-cart.

  Cons

  Could have more templates. Otherwise no bad opinions.
