Sometimes it seems like there are nearly as many audio players as there are people who like to listen to music, but few of them are really anything to get excited about. Winyl, however, is different. Although most of its features are fairly typical, it has an attractive interface that sets it apart from much of the competition.

Using Winyl is easy. We simply navigated to the folder full of songs that we wanted to use as our library, and Winyl displayed them in a tree hierarchy by artist, album, year, and genre. Winyl also gives users access to a wide variety of Internet radio stations, and users can create custom playlists or let the program create smart lists based on the most recently played, most frequently played, and top-rated songs. The program's interface is sleek and uncluttered, and we especially liked the optional pop-up window that displays each song's title and artist when it first comes on. Users can choose from six high-quality skins, including one that looks quite a bit like iTunes, and a mini mode reduces the interface to a small, unobtrusive rectangle. The program also displays album cover art when available and has an equalizer interface for users who like more control. There's no Help file, but anyone who's ever used a media player before should be able to figure it out. Overall, we found Winyl to be versatile and attractive, and we think it's a great choice for anyone who needs a nice-looking audio player.

Winyl comes as a ZIP file. It installs and uninstalls without issues.

Pros
Extremely fast start up time. The fastest. Pretty nice little equalizer. It's really responsive. Many beautiful skins to choose from and they support album art. It automatically categorizes your music library by Album, Artist, Genre, Year etc... Will not rearrange your folders or music files.
Cons
My one and only gripe is that the library isn't monitored & updated automatically. You have to push a button that says update (shock!, horror!). Actually not a deal breaker for me at all.
Summary
If you just want a good sounding, good looking, easy to use, fast player with no bloat then Winyl is something you should seriously consider. I truly love it. I really think you will also.

This is the best free music player I have ever tested (maybe after Linuxs Amarok). It sounds great and is easy to use.

Fast, good looking skins, User Forum, easy to use, Free, small footprint, excellent communication with author.
Cons
Limited to 1.000 tracks or items in the playlist, but this will be increased with the next version. Cover art pictures could be a bit larger.
Summary
I didn't like one feature about a skin. I asked if that could be changed in a next version. The next day I could download an updated skin. THAT is what I call customer service!! A very fast and simple to use player that could easily compete with the big boys. I have tried many players so far but this one beats them all as long as you don't expect miracles from this 2.8mb file. For simple daily use it's perfect.
