Putting a Snood twist on memory games like Concentration, What's New asks you to click on what has changed on the screen. You don't play against the clock exactly, but you score more points for quicker responses. Picking the wrong item during play will cost one of three lives, but not during bonus rounds. Extensive configuration options let you control how frequently various game types appear, so you can reduce or even eliminate particularly hated boards. The cute graphics feature guest appearances by Snoods, as well as plenty of insects and outer space icons.

The game consumes more memory, 20MB, than its slender cousins. When we were running other programs simultaneously, we noticed delays at the beginning of the rounds. We also experienced a minor error when we first launched the program. We appreciated the generous trial conditions--100 games of the harder levels and unlimited play on Child and Easy--but could have done without the extra promotional icon. While the game is marketed to children, the harder levels of What's New could attract grown-ups who like to test their memory.

Developer’s Description

Find out what is new in each round of the puzzle game.
What's New is a fun puzzle game from the author of Snood and Snood Towers. It will test your intellect, rather than your reflexes. Your goal in a variety of round types is to find out What's New in each round. You only have three chances to make a mistake and if you run out, the game is over. What's New is for adults and kids. The game is nonviolent and nonconfrontational, and children can play at their own pace. It develops several basic skills, including memory, logic, geometry, strategic assessment, and problem solving. If a helper is present to explain the rules, it does not require reading, and the controls are very simple. The Child difficulty level is easy enough even for young children to enjoy (ages 3-4). What's New is particularly fun to play with children or friends.
