Editors' Review
WebResearch Professional professes to assist and organize online researching and note-taking efforts. The interface is well designed and organized for ease of use, but you should be aware of a few caveats, so don't purchase before trying.
Although the publisher says WebResearch will install seamlessly to both Internet Explorer and Firefox, it didn't load to Firefox's toolbar in our tests, which may be because WebResearch isn't yet compatible with the latest version of the browser. It did load in IE and opened a tutorial, even though IE isn't our default browser.
The small toolbar doesn't take up much space, and its buttons functions are easy to understand. We liked the online tutorial, which made mastering the tool a snap. However, when we saved an item--whether it was an entire Web page, a graphic, or a selection from a page--the processing time was longer than we expected; in fact, a couple times we thought the program had locked up, only to see that the program was functioning, although slowly.
The interface for managing the saved items was easy to use, thanks to its being based on the familiar paned e-mail client design. Manipulating items was easy to do, and we didn't encounter any glitches in this portion of the tool. However, the slowdowns we experienced with the Save functions and the failure to load to Firefox keeps us from providing a high recommendation. The 30-day trial limit is adequate, but the price may be a bit steep for some folks, particularly if they encounter the same problems we describe here.
