  Pros

  The generated Spring/Hibernate layer makes server side Java business logic a cinch, and the Dojo client side removes the complexities of AJAX and allows you to just create your UI with simple DnD and add presentation logic to intuitive widget events.

  Cons

  Global CSS customizations are a bit cumbersome in the current version, but the forth coming version (6.2.x) promises a well-tooled custom CSS theme template creator.

  Summary

  I've had the opportunity to use the product to create many large and complex enterprise applications. I've been able to use WaveMaker to build apps as simple as an internal for project time tracking with less than 200 lines of client side code in only a couple days to enterprise applications with several developers building web applications with dozens of pages requiring real-time language translation, reporting, tablet-based computing, database synchronization, message queue integration, web cam and signature integration. WaveMaker's generation of Spring and Hibernate provide a significant jump start for the casual and advanced server side Java programmer to implement sophisticated server side business logic when it is required. The Studio's DnD drop UI builder is implemented so well, you soon forget that you are in a browser-based development environment. The Studio makes it easy to get started with the Dojo toolkit for the novice JavaScript developer. And for the more advanced script developers, the full power of Dojo is at your disposal. And the complexities of Java web application deployment and management are minimized by the Studio. Your application is compiled and a WAR or EAR file is generated and deployed to your target application server with the click of a button from within the Studio. Whether you are a seasoned web application developer or just getting started, WaveMaker is a great tool to get it done in less time.

  - Standards based - Gives me a framework to work with instead of reinventing the wheel for my projects

  - Needs a better code editor for Javascript

  Summary

  - Growing community which helps me with not only Wavemaker issues but any Java or Hibernate problems I run into as well.. - Highly extensible (it's easy to use for beginners but at the same time does not limit more experienced programmers)

  The Studio makes it super simple to get a good looking dojotoolkit browser client with a spring server backend up in running in no time with no coding Endless possibilities if you don't mind doing some coding

  Cons

  Trouble finding a good java app hosting provide, deployed to AMI on EC2 instead.

  Summary

  WaveMaker does the "heavy lifting" of getting an app up and running. It is really impressive just how much it does when you get to looking at the app. The visual studio is easy to use and can configure a fair amount of an app without code. Since you get a well designed, open source app; hand coding things you can't do visually is straightforward.

  I have never seen any thing easier to use than this. It is not only very instrumental for developeing prototypes but also good for production-level real applications.

  Pros

  WaveMaker made it extremely easy to build a web-based asset management application, especially compared to MS Access. We had the entire MS Access system ported and in production in 4 weeks of part-time work by one guy (me!)

  Cons

  No built-in report writer so I used BIRT

  They have a browser based drag-and-drop designer for rich internet apps, and the backend is 100% Java.

  No support for php

  Developers who are unsure how to be extremely productive while harnessing web 2.0 technologies should look at WaveMaker. I personally have not seen such a well - designed web-based application tool with such a vibrant community of open source developers before. WaveMaker is, in a word, amazing.

  don't know - couldn't really get into it

  Cons

  only from the perspective first time, short time user, and having used several other good Web site creation apps (free and retail), this comes across as not for a novice for sure and not very appealing to veterans.
