The number of video conversion programs available makes choosing a good one difficult. Though it's basically functional, the lack of features and problematic setup make VidConvert for Mac a less desirable option.

VidConvert is available as a free trial version with a three-minute conversion time limit; the full, unrestricted program requires payment of $7.99. The program installs quickly. Unfortunately, after initiating the program, the user must complete an additional download from a separate site before conversion can take place. This second download requires Terminal operations, which is a lot to ask of all but the most experienced Mac users. Once set up, VidConvert for Mac provides a rather plain yet easy-to-use interface, which is good, since there are no user instructions available. Technical support also doesn't seem to be an option if the user has any difficulties. In terms of operation, users can click and drag files for converting or select them, manually. Once they're entered, a drop-down menu allows selection of the output format by device. The actual file conversion took as long as would be expected and the output matched the original file in terms of quality.

While it performs its basic functions well, VidConvert for Mac's complicated setup and basic features leave much to be desired for this type of program.

Fast, easy and uncluttered, excellent software.
icarusflyerNovember 19, 2011
Pros
Simple user interface, supports batch conversions, easy to select from a wide variety of Apple formats or other standard formats. Very fast, 4 times quicker than handbrake with the same file. Advanced features are available for folks that like to play with these things but for the novice (me) the standard interface works well. Price $7.99 is a small price to pay for the power of the software, you are not paying for pointless features that no-one needs.
Cons
Installation requires you to add a 'conversion engine', this is easy enough though as full instructions are given on the website, it would be better if it was a one step process though, a minor niggle.
Summary
Simply the best video converter I have used, yes Handbrake is free but it does not support batch conversion and is pretty slow in comparison.
Vidconvert 1.1.2 perfects previous versions.

Pros
Feature rich, Optimized!
Cons
None worth mentioning
Summary
Reggie Ashworth has been working rapidly and effectively to bring this new version 1.1.2 to fruition. You may own converters which cost seven times as much money but you will find yourself turning to this little app quite often because it does the same thing more simply than the rest of them all!
Nifty, powerful and sweet little app.

Pros
Ease of use to tweak the most complex settings or have the app do it for you automatically without feeling intimidated like when you use the much much more expensive apps which do no better a job on virtually the same array of filetype converting.
Cons
None to worry about because VidConvert works!!! And anything you feel is missing, you can write to the developer about and he will surely consider putting it in a later version...and he will get it to fit perfectly in this tiny little app.
Summary
Do not underestimate this tiny little app or what this developer will do to make it even better in the future. The app is a compact blockbuster which now does the job like apps costing 5 times as much!
