Play a new variation of a classic Tic-Tac-Toe game.

Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe is a new spin on the old Tic-Tac-Toe game. In Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe, each square in the 3x3 grid contains a smaller Tic-Tac-Toe board. In order to put your X in a square on the Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe grid, you must win the mini-board that square contains.

But there is an additional complication: You don't get to pick which board in the 3x3 grid you get to play on. That is determined by your opponent's previous move. Whichever square he played on, that is the board you must play on when it's your turn. For example, if your opponent chooses the bottom right square, then you must play on the bottom right board. If you then choose the top middle square on that board, your opponent must then play on the top middle board. And so on.

If the next board to be played has already been won or tied, then the player can choose any board to play next.

This version of Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe is free and runs on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and 8. You can play 2-player games or against the computer.

It might be fun--if you had a chance of winning

Pros
The file is small, and easily erased. It does have a 2-player option, which might be more fun.
Cons
It's near-impossible to win against the computer, which ruins any fun one might have in single player.
Summary
The problem with the game lies in the inability to choose which grid one's next move is on in Single Player. The computer always wins because there is virtually no chance the player will be allowed access to a grid to make a countermove, or to a board where he has the advantage, and even if he is, it's a rarity that said board will be of any strategic value. Most of the grids I have lost to the computer were grids on which I was never given the opportunity to counter a single move of the computer's. Many grids were ones which I dominated, but was not given the chance to place my final marker. I've had two in a row with no opposing moves, yet lost the grid because it would only be highlighted after that on the computer's turn more times than I've been willing to count. This game might have some merit in head-to-head play, but if you are looking for a single player experience, look elsewhere. Unless you really like losing ALL THE TIME.
