TripIt is a personal travel organizer aimed at casual and business users. If you forward your electronic travel confirmations (from an airline, car company, hotel, and so on) to it, TripIt will intelligently collate them all into one place, parse the information, and add related information as well, such as maps, weather, events (from Eventful) and photos of where you're going (from Flickr). The goal being to replace all your pages of printed confirmations with a single online page that has all the relevant information, nicely organized for you.

The TripIt "Itinerator" also has a social function: If you set up travel friends who are going on the same trip, it will collect all the data in one place, and will, from that point on, let you share your travel calendars if you like. In addition, the service even offers location-based friend finder alerts for trips.

Most recently, TripIt partnered with Hotwire to help users organize and share their travel plans through the popular travel booking Web site. Users booking a trip through Hotwire will now be able to click an "Add to TripIt" button after completing their travel plans. Upon doing so, those plans are added to a TripIt itinerary. Though the basic service is free, TripIt also plans to bring its premium "pro" package to Hotwire. The feature costs $69 per year and monitors itineraries and sends mobile alerts when delays occur. It also finds alternate flight options.

Used to be Great - Now A Data Mess

Easy to forward trip information to them. Instantaneous response.
Cons
Inelegant interface design. Used to be simple and easy to use. But like all good things, the feature creep people got a hold of it and turned it into a data mess. For all the software intelligence they tout the systems can't figure out that a named trip (i.e. a trip name you define) should be associated with the individual trip items you sent them (i.e. air, hotel, rental car) bounded by a common start and end date. On top of that you get to see in excoriating detail the travel information of people you have partnered with (i.e., travel companions or people you want to share travel info like a spouse). And there is no clean way to filter any of this stuff. So what you end up with is stuff and data - not useable information.
Summary
What used to be a simple elegant tool with useful information has turned into a data mess.

Pros
After reading some of the above reviews I was a bit skeptical of the site but glad I still tried it out anyways. I don't use travel agents so all of my confirmations (hotels, flights, attractions, tours) came directly from the company I booked it from. I forwarded them to the email it said and it worked for all of them. I just tweaked a few of the notes it pre-populated for completeness and my own reference. Contrary to what one person said, you can cancel/deactivate your account in the settings tab. I was just wanting to make sure this website was private and secure and wouldn't somehow take negatively advantage of that info and thus far it has never done anything of that nature.
Cons
When you first sign up, do be sure and make sure you uncheck the box for automatically pulling booking info from your email. That made me feel a bit uncomfortable, knowing they somehow are monitoring all the contents of my inbox. I am not sure if you select that option initially if there is a way to undo it. So just read carefully and decide if that is really what you want when creating your account.

Pros
It sounded promising, and I like the idea of having an app for it.
Cons
I forwarded 2 confirmation emails and received a very criptic message "Unable to understand: 'Fw: <<Booking website name removed>> Airfares Booking Confirmation <<confirmation # removed>>'" So I had to manually update tripit and that wasn't worth it.

I had to delete the account. Shame.

Pros
Great app if you don't have any problems. Have one glitch and there is no avenue to call Customer Service or Tech support.
Cons
Only works automatically if your travel agent sends the information otherwise you have to enter it your self.

If you can put up with the poor tech and customer service it's ok My one and only dealing with customer service was a -05and that's putting it nicely

None. It stealthily connd me into publishing my private information!!!!
Cons
It reads my emails, it publishes my private trips, it is NOT cancel-able (the free version). It is a nighmare!!! There is no way to contact support (in the free version)

Tech support seems to be incompetent, and no ability to escalate or converse ..left with failed application after several weeks of receiving bad advice from them

Lost all my trips off iphone while traveling, and weeks of bad advice from tech support failed to fix their application. worked on iphone till I restored, then it was only 1 of 39 apps that didn't work anymore. After that weeks of their techs bad advice and four hours of my time following them, tripit tech support wrote, 'your iphone is old ...best advice I can give you ..update to latest iphone.' Can't talk to them. Can't escalate to higher level tech than entry level

Pros
No more hassle, i.e. say goodbye to creating outlook meeting requests after booking a restaurant, hotel or airplane. My tripit calendar reflects my latest reservation. I even have a link to my husband's tripit right in my gcal.
Cons
You have to pay for addl functionality.
