• Not Bad, I found it useful, even with the free level.

  Pros

  1. You choose a list of practice words from provided categories, which eliminates the requirement of needing to know the words that you want to learn. 2. The flashcard feature randomly switches among starting cues like the English written word(s), or the Chinese character(s), or even with just a Chinese spoken word. This challenges expectations and thus avoids learning ruts.

  Cons

  In the free version, not all the words that are available in the paid version are available in the free version -- simply because the number of words is limited to a certain number per week, and so all the words in a list may not be available after the allowed number are chosen. (However, for a relatively new learner like me, any practice is good practice, so I do not see a downside here.)

  Summary

  Not bad! I will enjoy this as a short little study from time to time whenever I work on my computer. I'm at lesson 2A-1 of Pimsleur's Mandarin Chinese, just over half way. But, it is only audio, and so it will be enjoyable to start learning to read some of the characters that I've learned how to say, as well as some new ones. For me, I have to give this limited program a big thumbs up.
