Tilt lets you launch and collect money for a campaign, combining some of Venmo's payment options with Kickstarter's fundraising capabilities.
Discovery options: To find campaigns on Tilt, switch between World to see all of them and Following to see onlyour network's campaigns. You can also search directly for campaigns by keywords, such as "cancer" or "school supplies." When you click the search button, you'll discover which campaigns are trending. If you don't feel like searching, just enable notifications.
Easy campaign setup: To start a tilt, click the plus button in the bottom navigation, or click Me and then Start One Now from your profile page. Name your cause, your maximum, and whether you want each person to contribute at least or exactly a specific amount. You can add a photo from the Web or your Photos folder, add details, and make your post private. The default tilt length is one week, but you can use the slider to change that to as little as 1 day or as long as 60 days. End or edit your campaign under the settings button. Once you reach your goal, add your bank account for direct deposit.
Very social: You can message contributors privately, or add comments or photos on your campaign page to keep people engaged.
Quick pay: If you would like to pay or donate, just click Contribute on the campaign page, input your amount, and confirm. Add your credit card by snapping a photo of it, and enter your zip code -- this is a great safeguard in case your card or card number is stolen.
Great for groups: If you need money from a group, Tilt is the way to go. Unlike competing apps, Tilt enables you to request money from an entire group at once, rather than one person at a time.
Sharing options: You can share your campaign; invite friends to access it using their name, phone number, or email; or copy your tilt link to send it via text, email, or social media.
Annoying invite request: Tilt wants you to know that if you get a friend to sign up and launch a campaign, you'll each earn $20. And Tilt keeps reminding you with a really annoying pop-up ad. The app also tries to get you to invite friends when you're posting or donating to a campaign.
No room for lesser amounts: If a campaign asks for at least $10 and you only have $5, the app will refuse your contribution.
You can only send money for an existing campaign: If you're not asked for money, you can't just send it. That's a major disadvantage that may keep you reliant on Venmo or PayPal.
All or nothing: As with Kickstarter, if you don't reach your fundraising goal, you won't receive any money.
Tilt is a good way to raise funds or pay friends or family for a specific campaign or event. In contrast to other payment apps, it enables group payments. Its major downsides, though, are that there is no room for other amounts or for sending unsolicited funds.
