Think About Sound is an application which aids research into the perception of soundscapes currently being carried out at Glasgow Caledonian University. This tool will support an experience sampling research method whereby participants download the application and record their thoughts and feelings before and after a chosen sound event which has affected them in some way i.e. positively or negatively. Participants are encouraged to complete a short questionnaire on how they were feeling and record the soundscape in question.The main aim of this study is to investigate the level of activity (listening state) as it occurs naturally in everyday life with a focus on the different characteristics of the sound and how they relate to the listener, the soundscape, and the situation. The main outcomes of the study will access: 1) The affect of the soundscape on the listener i.e. irritation, distraction etc. 2) The situation i.e. location, alone or with another person, activity etc. and; 3) The characteristics of the soundscape itself i.e. what sounds are being heard and the prominence of those sounds at that time.
