Once you figure out the interface, you can build professional-looking games with The Games Factory. However, it's a long slog. The program comes with background elements, active objects, and even some animated characters. You can choose to include functions such as the boss key (F5) or instructions (F1), but you can't change key assignments. Neither of the options for the Jump action is the intuitive up arrow.

The help is spotty. It refers to the Multimedia Level as the "game level." Also, it says you can include sound files, but it doesn't tell you how. According to the Lectures file we downloaded from the publisher's site, the program imports MIDI soundtracks and WAV samples. Importable image files include PCX, BMP, IFF, RLE, and DIB. The animation editor will bring in existing FLI or FLC files.

The trial version lets you build and test a game, but you can't export it as a standalone file or as a Web game. Buying the Home version allows you to distribute games and screensavers for free, whereas the Pro version adds the right to charge for your creations. Aspiring game designers with patience and time might find The Games Factory useful.

It is easy. Just start it up, press New, open a object library, drop the objects in, program them and your done. In reality that would take me about 10 mins. Next there is expansion. Anybody with knowlege of I think it is C can make an extension (you might be able to do that on MMF2 Developer). For TGF1 there was MooSock (Multiplayer Online Object), File Encryption etc. Im sure these great extensions will be ported to this one. Finally its stability. The older 1.06 build 32 version, being partly 16bit based even if you chose the 32bit version was awful, crashing all the time. This though is just excellent. It has never crashed during my trial and the 'limited' games I have made (the entire library of objects was not included to make the download small) were excellent. Faster and more responsive than the older 1.06 build 32 created games.
Cons
It takes a while to learn. Well didn't BASIC, C, Windows, DOS, Your Computer? I happen to be a young person who gets this stuff well and I do find it a little bit harder than the old TGF1. And that seems to be it.

You can do diferent games with no programming knowledge. I made RPG, ADVENTURE games, plataform,etc. You can do good quality games, it depends to you. Just think what you want to do, and let's start using your imagination. You can make your grafics and sound in other programs and then use it in TGF. Easier imposible!!!
Cons
The help files don't tell you how to make adventure, RPG, or strategy games. But you can do it anyway with hard work and exploring and knowing the program features.

Pros
You might have to dig a little for the Windows 3.1 version of the Games Factory, but it's worth it. I had read about Click and Create in an old game ad and combed through pages over the internet looking for the software until I found Click and Create didn't exist anymore, but The Games Factory was still available. Imagine my surprise when I found Clickteam's website still supporting the Windows 3.1 version and available for download. I'm happy! The game works as it should and the manual is excellent. People who complain that all they make is broken games or can't get it to work haven't read the manual at all. READ THE MANUAL AND FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS!
Cons
The download version is really broken so when you register, what availble pictures and sounds is all you get. You can try importing the disc from British game stores (or snag a copy from Ebay) and it's quite cheap. I got it for less than $20. The disc will automatically register to Home version. Make sure you get the update patch from 1.04 to 1.06 so you can play games made by others using the 1.06 version. You can buy the Professional licence from Clickteam to sell your games. If your monitor is set higher than 256 colors, your graphics will come out crappy. Save them as 256 bitmap and The Games Factory will be one happy camper (The Games Factory doesn't read GIF or JPG or PNG). I use Paint Shop Pro 3 or Corel Draw 3 for my graphics. Getting a pen/tablet to draw (if you know how) is ideal if you don't have a scanner for your drawings. It'll take a little practice, but it's worth it (unless you can only draw stick figures, find a friend who's an artist!). Long live Windows 3.1!
