Teachley: Addimal Adventure is a fun, jungle-themed app to help young school-age children master basic addition problems. It's designed for both classroom and home use, and there is a special section for parents and teachers where preferences can be adjusted and progress tracked.

Teaching visuals: This app presents addition problems visually in several different ways, so students can start to master strategies for solving them rather than only memorizing the answers. There are multiple strategies that students can choose from for each problem, so they can find the type that works best for them. And each comes with its own animal mascot and set of visuals.

Modes and levels: Parents and teachers can determine whether students use the app in Normal mode, Tool Round mode, or Speed mode, and there are also options for changing the difficulty of the problems presented. Selections include Normal, Easy, Medium, and Hard. There is also a Reporting section where adults can review which problems the students got right or wrong, in which mode, and how many attempts it took.

Frustrating slider: The slider used to answer questions in Tool Round mode is a little touchy and could get frustrating, especially for the youngest users. In order to answer a question, you have to slide the marker to the right spot on the line, but your answer is submitted as soon as you let go and without asking for confirmation.

Bottom Line

Teachley: Addimal Adventure is a well-made app that gives kids the tools they need to master basic addition problems. It offers lots of options for teachers, as well, to make it easier to integrate into classroom instruction, and it's free. The app is designed for use by children age 6 to 8.
