  Its very light on your PC's resources but still is an exciting game.

  As good as it was some 36+ years ago when i first played it. An Asian electronic monopoly game. I wonder if James Clavel has played it?

  Pros

  suspense, luck, exotic places, bravery, business sense, gut feel ... the list goes on. each decision gets you closer to your feelings. your first mate surely knows how to treat you to feel like a real master of the seas

  i prefer the monochromatic apple screens. fighting against dozens of ships is kinda dragging

  audio and colors are not needed in this classic. hope they release this in windows mobile and ipod too

  Pros

  Simple fun, very small digital footprint on your computer. Good to run when you're at the office and waiting for Miller TIme.

  Cons

  Not terribly sophisticated but that ain't what this game is trying to be.

  Summary

  Just like the game I played back on the Apple II back in the early '80s. Very short learning curve and it has a small window that you can hide fairly easily on your work computer. Just make sure you save your game periodically.

  Very nice game, ideal if you need to relax. Can be quite addictive though ;D <p> <p>Tip: (Since I found no EULA nor TOU for Taipan, I decided to post this. This tip lets you edit a whole game, so don't use it if you don't like cheats). <p> <p>Try opening a saved game with a text editor. You will find a number of lines with numbers and data there: <p> <p>line 1: Your game's date. <p>line 2: Your game's name. <p>line 3: The port you are currently anchored. <p>line 4: The number of cannons your ship has. <p>line 7: Your ship's hold. <p>lines 8-11: The goods you have on your ship. (8 Opium, 9 Silk, 10 Arms, 11 General) <p>lines 12-15: The goods you have on your warehouse. (12 Opium, 13 Silk etc...) <p>line 16-19: The goods price at your current port. (16 Opium, 17 Silk etc...) <p>line 20: The money you have deposited in the Bank. <p>line 21: Your debt? (I'm not sure but I think that is) <p>line 22: The money you have on your ship. <p> <p>That's all. I hope it was helpful. <p>Have fun :D

  Pretty good for a 2 1\2 mb game. Fun and challenging. Gives a twist that makes it different than most games like it.

  Really cool and fun. I was playing for about a year before I got tired of it. Once you beat it a few times (beat it as in you get maximum number of cannons so that you just blow away all the pirates) then it gets tiring. BUT DEFINITELY WORTH DOWNLOADING

  Lacks modern gaming action. Don't let that put you off!! The more you play, the less you want to stop. Made me feel all nostalgic, thinking of my teenage days playing ELITE on my Amiga!!
