  Pros

  Deep, flexible, unusual, and entertaining to use. Many different types of synthesis & effects modules, and interesting ways to have modules interact. Powerful control of parameters. A user can fairly quickly build rich sounds and layered sequences from pre-made pieces or from the ground up. Sunvox lets you work in unusual ways, and think in a different model than the usual DAW. Plenty of helpful video tutorials. Developer seems very responsive to his user-base and has created a unique product. Currently (mid 2012) the Mac OS X version is free (along with other computer platforms), and the iOS and Android versions are $5. This is a helpful combo, allowing you to learn the program on your computer and your device.

  Cons

  Initial learning curve is steep, and the program does require some basic knowledge of synths, and this particular type of modular environment. The non-graphic "tracker" sequencer takes some getting used to. Some menu-items are a bit small and hard to select on the smaller devices. There are ways to do many things, but I think they require some inside knowledge.

  Summary

  The right-out-of-the-box experience requires patience and trust in one's self. The interface is logical and intuitive, but not at first. It is user-friendly, but the user has to do a fair amount of learning to get to that place. It is a strange and rubbery interface where dragging around on the screen expands and contracts different parts of the interface. There are cryptic functions and shortcuts in old-school menus. One piece of advice is to watch a bunch of the videos and pay attention to different things that are accessed in the demos. I've only had it for a few days and can't do anything very impressive yet, but I'm really enjoying getting to know it. I could spend hours tinkering around with this. It's a serious set of tools, but I still feel like it is the most fun toy I've gotten in a long while.
