SteerMouse is an advanced utility for USB and Bluetooth mice. SteerMouse can assign various functions to buttons that Apple's software does not allow, including double-clicks, modifier clicks, application switching, assignment of shortcut keys, "snap to" cursor movement, which moves the cursor to target (such as an OK button), and more. SteerMouse lets you control the cursor's Sensitivity on top of the Tracking Speed. (Apple's software only allows adjustment for the Tracking Speed.) By adjusting both configurations, you can customize the ideal setting for the cursor to fit the movements of your hand.

Pros
If you have a mouse with several buttons you can program them to anything you want. I have Ctrl+F and copy/paste. This is my favorite efficiency hack on my computer. The app also has very good email support.
Cons
No cons at all. This is a great app.

Pros
I use using a Logitech Optical Mouse USB with Mac OS 10.7. The mouse driver software provided by Logtech was unstable, requiring reboots of the OS when it crashed. (Currently Logitech does not have a compatible driver to download on their site.) I tried USB OverDrive since it is free. It was equally unstable, incompatible, caused problems and appears to be no longer updated. SteerMouse works with my Logitech mouse. It provides all the functions of the original Logitech Driver as well as some functions not included using the Logitech driver. It is stable and compatible with OS 10.7 on my late 2006 iMac. BTW I am using SteerMouse version 4.1.7.

There is nothing I can think of to disappoint me about SteerMouse

If you need a driver for your mouse you should definitely look at SteerMouse. There is a free trial period before you need to pay. You can test SteerMouse before buying to determine its compatibility.

For those using some less recent Kensington products where drivers have not been updated, this software can be a lifesaver.

Pros
I have a Logitech mouse. The mouse driver caused serious (reboot type) crashes on my Mac (10.6.6). SteerMouse works perfectly, configures all buttons.
Cons
None. It works.
Summary
I've had two mice that SteerMouse has worked with better than the original drivers. It has recognized every mouse that I had. Excellent program.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I've been using Steermouse with Logitech mice for a couple of years. It works well with one mouse. It is a pain to program the buttons for most mice. Occasionally I want to use a different mouse. steermouse does not recognize that a new mouse is being used so it tries to use the settings from the previous mouse. The settings must be changed everytime I switch a mouse. I would give Steermouse 5 stars if programing were much easier and If it would allow me to switch mice without having to do the settings all over again.
