Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force is the first game based on the Star Trek Voyager universe. One blast from destruction, the U.S.S. Voyager is mysteriously transported into a hull space infested with danger. As a member of the Elite Force Hazard Team, you must deal with situations beyond the normal call of duty, defending against a host of never-before-seen scavenging aliens, then infiltrate a Borg cube and derelict vessels to eradicate your deadly foes, in 40 ultra-intense single-player combat missions and 16 multiplayer arenas. No one said being a hero was easy. Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force is the ultimate in sci-fi 3-D first-person shooter action, powered by renowned Quake III Arena(TM) engine. Set phasers to frag..

For Mac users, though, it can be a bit of a headache to get patched-up and running. I could not get the 1.2 patch to install - I read the readme which advised copying the patchfile into the game folder before running it, and the patch quit without explanation. There are a few minor stability issues: I was about three hours into the game when it crashed on me and refused to restart. A backup of the save-games and a reinstall was the easiest solution. It runs mostly OK in Classic mode under Mac OS X, but can have issues changing display modes, occassionally leaving the Dock or menu visible until you re-apply graphic settings.
Though its old, this game is well worth playing: it manages to satisfy the Trek-lust of many fans, by combining elements and characters from all of the Trek series. AI and strategy are average, but satisfying. The environments are interesting and faithful to the shows, though they occassionally get annoyingly bogged down in a maze of passages, jeffries tubes and tunnels.
This would stand as a decent, enjoyable FPS game on its own, even without the Trek content. My only annoyance is at how difficult it is to get it running on modern (read post-2004, OS9 no longer bootable) hardware. I would NOT recommend trying it on Intel Macs.
