Key Details of Sneaky Bastard
Editors' Review
Sneaky Bastard for Mac takes a snapshot of the users accessing a computer immediately after waking up or after a preset time period. The app uses the iSight camera and runs surreptitiously in the background. If you want to monitor access to a computer, this app can help you.
Sneaky Bastard for Mac quickly installs as a system preferences pane in Mac OS X and only an admin or the current user will be able to access and modify its settings. This application has a small interface with a handful of options. Once you've enabled it to load at startup, you have to choose the location where the snapshots will be saved, as well as the e-mail address to which the images will be secretly sent. In the preference pane, there is also an option to enable the application to display an icon in the menu bar, which is an option you probably want to disable to keep Sneaky Bastard completely sneaky. Options for taking snapshots let you choose between taking only one snapshot, which then overwrites the previous, and taking and storing multiple snapshots. The app functions as expected and managed to take snapshots after a preset time period as well as upon waking up. Photos taken in low-light condition are (as can be expected) rather fuzzy, so if you have the ability to control the environment, you'll get better results.
In the end, we must admit that Sneaky Bastard for Mac is indeed a sneaky app -- it does what it claims. If you're looking for a clever and effective way to monitor computer access, this unobtrusive app is a must-have.
