This tool plays Flash files and converts them into screensavers, executable files, or images, but suffers from poor execution. The program's merely functional interface features pull-down menus to play, convert, and capture SWF files. Our tests found more problems than solutions with SmartSWF. Capturing Flash files from URLs didn't work and the option for capturing AVI files was oddly disabled. If you have a working SWF file on your PC, SmartSWF can quickly export it into a standalone application, The program also quickly converts each SWF frame into several BMP, JPEG, GIF, or TIFF images. The utility also easily creates screensavers within a couple of minutes. Unlike similar applications, SmartSWF creates only an SCR file, not a full-blown installer package. Nonetheless, if you have Flash movies on your PC that you need converted into executables or a series of images, this freeware is a snap for novices to master and a quick tool for advanced users.
