Summary
In my humble opinion, this Shredder Classic 4.0 for Mac is worthy of Heaven. It is simple enough that most operations can be figured out at least by me. I never graduated from high school. It is complex enough that you can play at the master level. I am never going to get there!hehe One caution, you may need to do some practicing and studying if you are just starting out. Other than the price, I would say it is all worth it! I would say save up for it or ask for this software from one of your parents nicely. It is worth it at least for me. There are many chess softwares out there. May you find what you are looking for.
Best interface, great engine
chredderreview
Pros
It has a nicer to use interface than Sigma chess and GNU chess. The play is realistic at the lower levels with human like blunders. Hover-over pop up board layouts on the move variations is a nice feature. Best of all is that on the lower levels the engine still calculates the maximum number of moves per second, so the computer can reply instantly and keep the rating level.
Cons
The hint moves are given at the level you are playing at, meaning that even if you follow the computer's hints you can do some obviously bad moves. If you repeatedly change moves and variations, occasionally the software gets stuck and won't make the next move.
