But, the data is not encrypted and can easily be read in a word processor even if one password protects a data file. It is not recommended for info such as credit card numbers etc, especially on a laptop. I understand data encryption is coming. I hope it is soon. Bill

• Still no Import of Folders

It can batch import files, and now it can do old scrpit pro files, which is great. But I need to be able to easily import export folders of files, with subfolders in them. Other programs, like Notepad Deluxe and HogBay Notebook can do this. I would also really really like to see good GREP search tools which show a list of all the documents matching the search result, with the number of hits per document. To see what I mean try using LOCATE on a folder of text documents with the GREP search feature!

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I used Scrapit Pro on 9, and found it to be one of--if not the--best scrapbook enhancements available. I've been waiting patiently for a X version, and now that it's here, there are some significant (to me) drawbacks. First and most glaring, there is not good clean way to import data from the 9 version. While it's probably not a big deal for most, there are still those of us out there who have a ton of old Scrapit files. I've found it to be indispensible in keeping my websites I've designed--all the HTML, docs, emails, images, ad nauseum, that I have several CD's full of Scrap files. Okay, that's out of the way. Now for some reason, I can't tell Scrapit that I don't want every bloody image glued to the bottom left of the window, but there they are. Or in some cases, floating about somewhere in the upper right area. It would be nice to be able to set a default to show images in the center of the screen, scaled down if needed. It seems a little inconsistent with file display. Example, one Excel file was rendered nicely, but another gave me a queston mark. (Looking again, the first file that displayed is now showing a question mark.) Others show Can't Be Displayed. It's an excellent effort, certianly better than anything I could do, but as a user there are several things to be addressed. I'll probably hang on to it for a while, to see what the next iteration brings. But as of right now, it's not as useful as it used to be. Umm, drag-and-drop? Please?

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I loved this app under OS 9, but in the long search to find a replacement since I moved to X I have tried so many different applications that I must express disappointment with the initial OS X release. It is a solid program, and it handles a wide variety of file types - which puts it ahead of many applications that insist on RTFD for all their entries. Perhaps the best feature is the ability to view PDFs - but this is also where the program's weakness begins to show. PDF viewing is spotty. There is no smoothing, it is difficult to see the whole page width on landscaped files, etc. I find it much easier to view PDFs in Safari with the PDF plugin. Search features are also good, but the search is slow and you only find one word at a time. Compare this with HogBay Notebook where you get Mail.app-like search results of all your documents! And, for now, I simply prefer the carbon app NotePad Deluxe. I hear HogBay is completely re-writing their excellent Notebook program as well. This is a nice app, but it simply doesn't hold up to the competition.
