Schulte Grid for iOS

Schulte Grid is a game designed to help you improve your focus and attention, and it may help improve your speed reading, as well. Watch your skills grow as you move on to larger and larger grids, always competing against the clock to see how quickly you can tap the numbers in order.

This app has a very intuitive interface and straightforward features. From the home screen, you can select the size grid you'd like to use from 2x2 all the way up to 9x9. There are tabs at the top of the screen to switch between Easy and Hard modes, and you can change the colors of the interface by tapping on the palate icon in the lower left-hand corner of your screen until you find a combination you like. There is also an Information tab in the upper right hand corner of the screen that takes you to the instructions for how to play the game. To play the game, just select the size grid you want, and you'll see a countdown from three on the screen. At the end of the countdown, a grid will appear with one number in each spot. If you're using a 2x2 grid, for instance, the numbers one through four will be positioned on the grid in a random order. Your goal is to tap the numbers in ascending order as quickly as possible. Once you've done that, a box will pop up, giving you your total time and presenting you with options to retry or go back to the main screen. You can play any level you want to start, and you can play each level as many times as you'd like in an effort to improve your score, and your attention along with it.

In the upper left-hand corner of the home screen, you'll see an icon for the game center, so you can see how you stack up against your friends and the larger playing community. Schulte Grid is fun and addicting, and whether it will actually help you read more quickly or not, it's certainly worth checking out.
