  Summary

  Renoise has a great demo, so definitely check it out. The licensing terms and ability to download it from the website is great. Any computer I'm on when I get a hit of inspiration, I can DL it and get straight to production. You can use Renoise to do every step of producing a song. You get complete control for a very cheap price - HUGE bang for your buck. The DPS's it comes with are great and very flexible, and when you need something specific you can use VSTs. Best of all, you can get your music out as you want it on demand, not having to cludge around with a mouse and piano roll. Some very popular producers use Renoise, especially within the D&B genre. Amongst these are Venetian Snares and Unter Null. It can be difficult to people that aren't familiar to music production via trackers, so if that's you, you might want to look up some videos on youtube - they're great.

  Pros

  Cheap. Seems solid. Does what most other high end DAWs do. Apparently it's workflow is faster than most. Supports VSTs.

  Cons

  Confusing at first. Especially if you are used to "traditional" sequencers.

  Summary

  I downloaded the registered version of this a few months ago. I admit, I have done a fair amount of head scratching since then. This is nothing new of course. I messed around with FL Studio 7 for a long time before anything clicked into place in my head. I heard good things about Renoise. Does what more expensive DAWs do for how much?? Also, I know Venetian Snares uses it. If he can make his insane tracks on it, it must be quite capable, right? Well, yes, I am starting to understand Renoise slowly but surely. The matrix grid is VERY intimidating at first glance. I read and watched a few tutorials online and it has stared to make a bit more sense...but not completely. There's no doubt, those numbers and letters are confusing. But, watching the tutorials, it really does seem that this sequencer can do nearly everything. I do miss the piano roll, though. It doesn't seem that the sound engine etc is inferior in any way to other software. Anyway, I have a long way to go, but I think I made a worthwhile purchase and all is needed now is for this old dog to teach itself some new tricks.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Mar 15, 2009<p/>Oh yeah, the 4 stars may be temporary. I didn't give 5 as I haven't fully understood everything Renoise can do yet.
