Recovery for Excel fixes corrupted Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.XLS). It supports all modern file versions, including Excel 2007, Excel 2003, Excel XP, Excel 2000, Excel 97, Excel 95 and Excel 5.0. Recovers cell data: text and numbers as well as formulas and formatting. Restores structure of multi-sheet files. The new Recovery for Excel is capable of recovering corrupted files with password protection (if the password is known), restores worksheet names.

Version 4.5 now supports Microsoft Excel 2007 formulas, Microsoft Excel 2007 password protected files, and add full support for .xlsx as the output file format.

may also have installed a couple piggyback programs. No better than Microsoft's repair kit already built in excel

The file was corrupt from being on a hard drive that got jolted.

Easy to download, set up and run

Didn't work. It did figure out I was using Excel 97, but ended with a fatal error and said I should contact customer service. I believe the problem in my file was I had a cell with a string that exceeded limits.
Summary
It's worth trying since it doesn't take long to try out, but don't be surprised if it doesn't help.

Pros
I'm very thankful. My heart was in my throat until I recovered it. The Demo only does a partial recovery and you have to purchase it to have it working for long documents. For short documents the demo will do.
