Summary
Beware!
Good for simple, flat, small gardens
PhilC_W
Pros
Relatively intuitive, handles most things quickly. Works well for small level spaces. Good aray of US plans but otherwise very limited, but then again there are millions of plants out there. Nice touches for example with fish in the pond.
Great to have an undo button, as it is easy to accidently pick up anobject and alter it without realising it!
Cons
Relatively primative graphics, eg grass looks very 'pasted' on to the terain. 'Creating your own tree' merely has a photo hanging at the chosen space. Trees tend to hang some distance above the ground if height grid is in use. ie not good at slopes ie in large space landscaping. Water levels in ponds and streams struggle with anything but small size. One hs to be careful of the way plants are sorted, either as modles or pictures... Water lilys therfore found under perenials but not in water feature if 'pictures' are selected. This can be baffling untill the difference is appreciated.
A nudge function for fine alignment fo objects would be helpful.
Summary
Worth a try, especially for a conventional flat square space. Don't expect realistic graphics. The trial version is so limited in terms of components that much of it's power and limitations is not appreciated.

CNET Price is wrong!
bvoss
Pros
To be honest I have not yet tried the sw; however, I'm turned off by the incorrect stated price (see cons).
Cons
The CNET download page for Realtime Landscaping Pro states "Free to Try; $59.95 to Buy".
HOWEVER, I just downloaded the sw to try and noticed that the actual price to buy is $99 + shipping. NOT a good start to an evaluation when the actual price is double the "advertised" price on CNET!!!

worth much more

Pros
I am a professional landscaping contractor and designer. I highly recommend Realtime Landscaping Pro. I use this program because it has features that cannot be found in landscape design software priced over ten times as much. The program allows the user to design in both a perspective or top-down view, automatically generates a three-dimensional model of the design, and allows the user to take a "walkthrough" tour of the 3D landscape. In addition, the graphics are very detailed, the software is easy to learn and use, and it comes with a library of 3D models of plants and various items commonly found in a residential landscape.

Don't be fooled by the low price: this is very sophisticated software. I have been using Realtime Landscaping Pro for several months now and I continue to be very favorably impressed by its versatility. My customers have also been favorably impressed by the in-home presentations I have made while using the software on my laptop.
