Shut down or log off your Windows session with a mouse click.
Quick ShutDown - free Windows shutdown utility that allows to shutdown, reboot or logoff your Windows session with a mouse click. When Quick ShutDown is running, an accurate miniature icon appears on the taskbar on the end opposite the Start button (next to the clock). Right-click on the icon and you have a choice to shutdown, reboot or logoff your Windows session. You can preset a command so that all you need to do is to left click on its icon in the desktray and that function will be carried out. Quick ShutDown optionally terminates programs that are not responding, making shutdowns both quicker and safer. You can easily set hotkeys for each task (shutdown, reboot and logoff).
Caused some issues on old Dell PC, but reinstalled, works good

Pros
Can set it up to automatically shut down computer at specific time using Task Manager
Cons
Kinda useless if it just sits there running in the tray; why do that when all you gotta do is push 'shut down' (or whatever it's set to do) on the Start Menu?
Summary
This program has its share of pros & cons. One 1 hand, it can be set up using Task Manager if you'd want to automatically shut down the computer at specific time. On the other, it's kinda useless just running the thing & letting it sit in the system tray; it really doesn't serve much purpose although you can just click on it & choose what you want to do from the menu & force hung apps to terminate as well. Not sure if or how this works on a Vista/Windows 7 machine--these will ask you if you want to wait for or force (x) program(s) to quit when you try to log off/shut down/reboot, which can come in handy. All in all, this is a good program.

Updated on Apr 18, 2010
Tried it on Windows 7. Works fine in automatic shutdown (scheduled) mode still. I use the -s trigger in Task Scheduler so it shuts down the system instead of just launching the program. Wish they'd update it so it's Windows 7 compliant. Not sure how the other stuff works on a Windows 7 system cause I never used those features. Not sure if there's some freeware that's a bit more current that's similar to this but I like this program so I'll stick with this for now.

Pros
I've had this on four computers. I like that it will safely close even a program that's not responding. No more sitting and waiting to see if it really DOES shut down.
Cons
I have to search to find it. I never remember "shatran" so go through all the googled "forced shutdown" or "quick shutdown" sites.

I came across this terrific little program on the Internet the other day and it sounded interesting, so I downloaded it. That turned out to be a very smart move on my part. "Quick Shutdown" makes going into "Hibernate" (my preferred shutdown mode) a snap!! (:-))
Great for scheduled tasks

don't believe the naysayers, I use this program to do scheduled reboots of workstations, and it always works like a champ, XP/2000/98.

Why even use this product when you can just hit your Windows button on your keyboard, then up arrow, then Enter, and scroll with you up and down arrows and the hit Enter again. That is much faster than dragging your mouse to the bottom of your screen and then looking at your options to reboot shutdown, or log off.
