When the program is stable it works alright for those how have the to time to learn it.

It's affordable but you'll spend a fortune on additional content. No longer for the hobbyist. Uses Digital Rives to process payments.
Summary
Way back in the day when this first came out, I thought it was a lot of fun. But it was too expensive for my college student budget so I wasn't able to own it until this summer. Its not a hobbyist program anymore. It takes serious time to learn and seems to crash a lot. I did enjoy playing around with it, but I've not used it much since purchase because many of the things are beyond my understanding and the tutorials assume you have a certain base knowledge about working in these kinds of programs. The thing that attracted me to Poser back in the day was that you didn't have to be an expert in three D modeling to use it. ( Note: I don't have the pro version. ) I'd like to say a few things about my experience with the company who makes poser- Smith Macro. When I ordered Poser, I wanted to get the box version because the last time I downloaded a program, my computer crashed. I had paid and additional 12 dollars to have them store a copy on their servers for 2 years. Well, my account magically disappeared and all attempts to contact them were ignored. I would have bought the box version of Poser, but despite ads on the site for free shipping, it cost 36.00 to ship it to PA. So I gave the storage system a second chance. Yesterday I found out my account was deleted yet again. Still waiting on feedback but I won't hold my breath. Also, this company uses a payment processor called digital rivers. I'm going to quote from a site who registers complaints about them. "DigitalRiver" is a payment processing company that processes charges for a number of on-line retailers. The type of complaints related to their charges indicate that a number of their clients are shady companies that use them to run throuch charges some of which may have questionable consumer "authorization". For example, there are reports of "free trial" "government grant" scams billing through them. There are many complaints from consumers claiming they have no idea what their charges are for." My peronsal experience with this. A month after I bought poser, I was billed 290.00 dollars via Pay Pal. Smith Macro never responded to my messages. However through the powers of google, I figured out what was going on. The 290.00 was supposed be billed weekly. Thankfully PayPal has such simple dispute process. I notified Smith Macro of what happened and that, you know, when we use or credit cards to purchase with them we place a lot of trust in them. Using a payment house like that puts all their customer's personal information at risk. Never heard back. (Also their contact form is a real pain.) If you do buy Poser or any Smith Macro product, I'd suggest going through amazon. There's no hidden shipping fees to offset the "discounts" and you have a physical copy for a rainy day.

Summary
I have to wonder how much Smith Micro pays writers for these glowing reviews, or perhaps whether we're using the same product. Yes, this is a slick, feature-rich product, but why can't just ONE reviewer be honest enough to mention the persistent lack of stability? As a veteran software developer, I KNOW how the system works - Engineers WANT to create a quality product, but the marketeers demand more and more features, and never allow the developers enough time to go back and fix bugs. I won't go into the myriad of issues in this release - they're largely identical to those that have plagued this product for the past several versions. Suffice it to say: Save often! In addition to the abysmal lack of stability, the user interface suffers from numerous quirks that suggest that nobody in the development team has any real experience in human interface design. These are more annoying than crippling, but they assume increased significance each time the program crashes, leaving you to recreate work done since the last save (hopefully recent). I recommend this product because what it does, it does well. However, based on the quality, I would put the fair price point at around $69.95, rather than the exorbitant $500 tag they demand. I would recommend that the developers band together, tell the marketing folks to take a hike, and get down to the admittedly unpleasant task of turning this into the fine product it can clearly become.
