Old method of text to speech, keyboard pronounces each letter as it is typed!

This is the old method of text to speech. Before the concept of "phonemes" was well understood, some inventors built devices that would simply make a noise for each character pressed. Although this method is faster for getting from mind to sounds, the words spoken often do not sound like the real word. Additional keyboard buttons could be added for alternate character sounds, but then the keyboard would likely have too many buttons.
