It uses systematic desensitisation -- a tried and tested method for helping with fears -- in a novel interactive way. Systematic desensitisation, also called exposure therapy, is based on helping you to gradually confront the thing that you fear. Starting off with Itsy -- who we believe won't scare even those with the most severe phobia -- we build up to more and more realistic and scary spiders until you face a tarantula that looks and behaves like the real thing. Towards the end of the app you will be able to have a virtual tarantula in your hand using our augmented reality feature. In fact, the very last session calls for you to go out into the world and take pictures of real spiders using your phone or tablet.Systematic desensitisation deals with your fear of spiders by teaching you to be relaxed and then getting you to progressively closer to the spider until you are able to touch it without fear. It sounds impossible but this technique has been successfully used in therapy for many, many years now. As you need to learn to relax in order to overcome your phobia, Phobia Free includes our Stress Free app, which you get as a bonus!As your progress through the app you will be able to get your friends and family to support you using our social tools.We hope our app will help you become Phobia Free.
