Password Safe is a strong contender in a large field of similar applications. The irritation of its obtuse interface is lessened by the inclusion of a thorough Help file and a healthy stable of features.

The arrangement of the icons on the toolbars and lack of text under the icons meant having to hunt for the right tools. However, after wading through the interface, the various functions all seemed well conceived and well executed. The capability to install in "portable mode" proved to be an extremely useful feature. Password creation is also another strong point, with the capability to tailor the creation feature. When adding a new entry, the password "strength" check could be more aggressive, instead of waiting until final submission of the entry, but at least the program let users continue even if the password they've entered is deemed "weak." The inclusion of a KeePass database import function is a plus for users of that software, and though there is no KeePass export, there are various other import and export formats available.

During use, the program was responsive and did not crash, and all the features we tested performed as expected. The installer (in desktop mode) placed an icon on the desktop without asking, and uninstalling the program left some items behind in the install directory. Database encryption and the portable-mode installation option make this a fine choice for managing all your various passwords.

Pros
Portable. Easy to open compared with others I've used. Easy to add or edit entries. Username or password can easily be pasted onto forms.
Cons
These are just general comments rather than real Cons: Entries are squashed up at the left hand end of lines with little space between name, username and password (the latter two are also in brackets). Columns would look better. Notes are not displayed on the interface, you have to either open the entry or hover the mouse to see the notes as a tooltip. Tray icon remains after you think you have exited the program. It took me a while to find a way in the options of preventing this. It needs a double click to open it from the tray, rather than a single click.
Summary
It was going to be a keeper for me until I found I could only use it on my desktop pc and not on my XP netbook.

Pros
I have been using this product for about 3 years now and cannot imagine life without it. Planning to include the info about this in my will to so that if something were to happen to me, my family can get into all the information that they want! Yes it may have some minor issues, but i cannot imagine my online life without this product!

I've been using Password Safe for years. Probably the biggest disadvantage is that I no longer know any of my passwords! It's easy to use, and it provides functionality to handle even the most obtuse sign-on processes. And... the price is right! What more could I want?

Keeps all of my personal information and passwords in a safe place.
Cons
Can't recover data if you forget your password. There's no method to provide a help or reminder and the database is lost forever (or until you remember)

This is a terrific product and the price is wonderful. The creator(s)are to be commended.

allows groups and subgroups personal database does not have to be stored locally can paste information to other programs e.g. browser It is free

What if you forget the master password? Does not always load into the notification - not sure why.
Summary
Does the job of remembering the passwords one uses for internet access very well. The data is heavily encrypted so can't be easily hacked to get this information. It means only one password needs to be remembered.

Easy to use, intuitive and love the ability to go directly to a URL.
Cons
1. Does not have a reminder of how to find the password if it is forgotten. 2. Newer versions won't open older versions of the database 3. Doesn't provide username or password directly to a URL login. 4. Won't create multiple groups at 1st level
Summary
This is a tremendously valuable tool. It's easy to learn and use and I wouldn't be without it. The fact it is open source and 'free' is wonderful and unbelievable. Thanks to the creators and maintainers of this great product.
