Overcast: Podcast Player makes it easy to listen to your favorite podcasts, whether you're on the go or relaxing at home. This streamlined tool gives you access to podcasts on all kinds of topics, or you can enter the URL for one not included in the preloaded list.

Pros

Premium features: The app itself is free to download and use, but for $4.99, you can unlock all of the premium features as well. These include things like Voice Boost, which evens out the sound and keeps everything at a comfortable listening volume. Other nice premium features include Smart Speed, which shortens silences, and a Sleep Timer that you can set to shut off the app after 15 minutes or an hour.

Category groupings: Podcasts preloaded into this app are grouped by category, so you can quickly find what you're looking for. You can also quick-subscribe to an entire category by using the button found at the top of the list.

Cons

Extra taps: This app is designed to facilitate subscribing to podcasts, and so playing just a single episode of a podcast that you don't subscribe to is a little more complicated than it seems like it should be. It's certainly not impossible to do this, but you a have to go through an awful lot of repetitive steps.

Memory hog: Because there is no straight streaming feature in this program, the app downloads all of the podcasts you could want. This can quickly take up a large chunk of your memory.

Bottom Line

Overcast offers a nice grouping of features through a streamlined and accessible interface. And because the Premium features are available as in-app purchases, you can try the program out for free to see if it's the right fit for you before you pay anything at all.
