We have a volunteer board of directors drawn from our supporters and the community at large. Since 1888, we have been the leading organization in Ottawa providing a safe haven for sick, injured and homeless animals. Each year, the Ottawa Humane Society rescues and cares for nearly 11,000 animals in our community. OHS Mission Our mission is "To work in and with our community to provide leadership in the humane treatment of all animals, to address the causes of animal suffering, to encourage people to take responsibility for their animal companions and to provide care for animals who are neglected, abused, exploited, stray or homeless".
