A huge game just got better.

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I first noticed this game a couple of years back, and I really liked its classic approach to space trading & combat. It took me a little while to get to grips with the controls, but it was worth it.. A major plus for this game is the addition of expansion packs (called oxp on their wiki), which add oodles of atmosphere and gameplay.

One of them, system redux adds realistic looking planets to the game, and there's random hits which adds space bars, where various seedy characters offer contracts on some of their rivals, then there's one with a massive alien invasion, another one adds 20+ cool new ships to the game...

There's dozens of expansions, each one of them adding new details to the Oolite universe. At the moment I'm only using 30 or so, but that number is relentlessly going up, as I discover new oxp's I simply can't do without!

To cut a long story short, I love this game! :)

This version might have test written on it, but it's much more stable, has better graphics, and on top of that it's faster than 1.65.
1.62

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The latest version, it should be mentioned, is not disappointing by any means. For anyone who hasn't followed the transition upgrade patches and go directly from 1.55 to 1.62 it should feel like a superb lift. Too many improvements to mention, but the soul that was good from the start is still quite intact.
Wow!

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Nice graphic tweaks, this version is definitely tougher! Also, the developers hard work putting behind the scenes code has paid dividends as it has allowed a growing army of modders to take flight.
WORKS GREAT IN TIGER!!!! Great APP!

Ok, ignore that...

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Funny, seems to work now. I see that the option to change screen resolution is also available on the same options screen. Is it only possible to do this in a real space station, and not in a rock hermit station? In any case, I think that not being able to change graphics settings except when docked is a very bizarre restriction. Great game though.

Be sure to check out the Oolite messageboards, too, lots of ideas submited by players that get implemented lightningly fast into the next upgrades, problemsolving, tips, feature-requests... Warning: highly addictive!

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This modern day version of the classic 80's computer game 'Elite' is not to be missed. It has captured the great style and feel of the original, with modern technology providing a level of images that we couldn't imagine 20 years ago! v1.24 is now available with iTunes integration...nice...
very nice!

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Very nice port of the classic ELITE game - I've spent countless hours behind the joystick of my Apple ][ playing this game. IMHO, few games ever came close to the sheer fun of playing this game. Oolite appears to be a faithful close (judging from the names, layout, and graphics), and I expect to burn another countless hours 20 years after my first time with this game. Performance on my 1.25 GHz dual g4 is great in fullscreen mode. To younger gamers the graphics may seem bland, even boring. The concept of this game, however, has been imitated countless times (EV anyone?), but never exceeded. A big 'THANK YOU' to everyone involved. One small wish remains: I'd love to have some direct joystick support (preferrably with invertible y axis) and support for a few buttons (fire, accel, decel). everything else is great! -ch
