• Nikon is venal!

  While you can use it, it actually pretty good.

  Cons

  You get two installations when you buy this product. By 'two' Nikon means, if your hard disk quits and you replace it, that's the second installation. If you buy a replacement computer, that's a second installation. If the hard disk quits on the new computer, buy the software again - no discount. If the computer manufacturer changes the operating system, that's another installation - buy it again. It is the only software example I am aware of that makes such a draconian restriction, has no upgrades for users, and we should force them to change. Use Photoshop. It will do about as well. There are other choices as well.

  Summary

  Overall, the software is fine, but the company sucks.

  Couldn't use it because it crashed, but NX1 is a great raw converter

  If you try to access any of the "preference" menu options, NX2 crashes.

  DO NOT BUY THIS SW FOR MAC SNOW LEOPARD!!! This error message was part of the MacBook log: Jun 7 16:21:33 Russ-Mundschenks-MacBook-Pro-15 Capture NX 2[14627]: -[NSConcreteAttributedString initWithString:] called with nil string argument. This has undefined behavior and will raise an exception in post-Leopard linked apps. This warning is displayed only once.

  all the controls of your camera available. U point technology works amazingly fast. Superb image quality after print (far more better than Aperture or PS Elements I used before)

  Cons

  unstable sometimes. Had previously on my PC frequent crashing of the program. Now on my new IMac with I5 Intel processor, it's much more reliable, but still sometimes gets unstable.

While not quite a Photoshop replacement, the image adjustment tools are comprehensive and the results superior to Adobe Camera RAW and Lightroom, especially when processing NEF native files. Nikon photographers can obtain better images compared with other tools. Color correction, local tone and exposure control can be quickly achieved. The masking tools are quite sophisticated, but easy to control. I'm guessing the Nikon engineers worked closely with NIK to assure close integration with Nikkor lenses and Nikon sensors allowing easy and effective correction of chromatic aberration, lens distortion and image sharpening -- results that would require a suite of third part plug-ins to achieve the same result using Photoshop. But all this function comes at a terrible price: speed. I'm using a MacPro with 4GB memory and 2 x 2 MHz dual core Intel Xeon processors. Yet, most corrections require inordinate amount of time. I watch the status wheel spin and spin and spin for adjustments that ACR or LR accomplish in real time. Fortunately, CNX 2 offers batch processing which I can set up and leave working while I do something else. Please Nikon, make this terrific software as fast as your competitors. Jim K

I just got off of the phone with Customer Service of Nikon U.S. I can't even open any images under 10.5.2!!! Let me quote them.. "We still have issues" NO KIDDING Need I say more...

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This is mainly for processing NEF files, which is obvious that some users that have left comments don't understand. It does an incredible job. No other program has the power of control points, which saves incredible amounts of time compared to Photoshop. That along with the ability to draw on selected effects with the brush tool with pressure sensitivity is very powerful. All without damaging the NEF itself. I've always wanted to select a level of sharpening and just draw it onto eyes without having to manually do selections first. This is true for color changes, blur, lighting, etc. What's really nice, is you can easily come back and make any changes you want, even changing the entire effect if you want by selecting the step. Unless you spend a little time getting used to the step process, the brush tool, and how control points work, you won't understand how much time this program will save you. This is almost an essential program for any Nikon user.
