MICotp is an app that implements TOTP security tokens.Why another soft token app when there are other apps like Google Authenticator available? All those apps have the drawback that the secret key which will be imported into the app isn't locked to the device. In case the key is delivered via e-mail (the quickest, easiest and most convenient way) there is no way to assure that the secret key is installed only on the one smartphone that the user likes to use for authentification. He could install the same or another app on another device and import the same key - doubling the risk that one of these phones could get into wrong hands. Not only losing that phone is risky - also the mail containing the key could be hacked. In other words: as long as the secret key can be used in any soft token app, we have to supervise the procedure of importing the secret key by making the user come to the service desk office. E-mailing the key is no option.The app MicOTP binds the secret key to a specific phone making the key unusable on any other phone.
